Alex is technically not wrong. Alec´s full name is Alexander, but he is mostly referred to as Alec. Shadowhunters look down on downworlders, so Isabelle´s connection to the seelies wouldn´t be seen as valuable. And a marriage would be out of the question. So she cut that tie. I really like the parallel Isabelle and Alec have going on this episode. She is getting in line and becomes more like her mother, also visually with how she dresses and does her hair. While Alec, who always follows the rules is becoming rebellious and doing things for himself. Not sure if you caught that dialogue, but Magnus claimed he needed "Virgin Shadowhunter energy" and that´s why he needed Alec, because Jace is obviously not a virgin. It was a lie anyway, but it´s still funny.
