Weekly update time!

In summary:

– Managed to outline 8 pages for chapter 15 of the MMO series!

– Created a Rando’s Ramble Timelapse for the “Vesper’s Backflip” animation!

– Currently working on a new type of video; a narrated animatic!

– Managed to practice drawing some gestures and colour!

– I have decided to make some changes with regards to how one can support RandoWis, and what can be seen by non-supporters on randowis.com! I explain more below!

MMO Series Update | MMOシリーズの進歩:

While I was not able to work on the MMO series last week, this week I managed to outline 8 pages. Though still not the ‘5 pages per day goal’ I’m aiming for, it’s still progress! I’m still trying to make the production process as efficient as possible, so I’ve been thinking of using Blender to create more 3D scenes in order to help get the backgrounds done faster. Currently the outlines mostly involve the characters of the MMO series, as I’ve yet to touch the backgrounds just yet! Chapter 15 has 37 pages, so I’m praying this helps to get it done sooner!

It’s going to take a bit of learning, but hopefully I’ll be able to show some sample backgrounds next week!

先週はMMOシリーズに手を付けられなかったが、今週は8ページのアウトラインを描くことができた。まだ「1日5ページ目標」には届かないが、それでも進歩だ！制作プロセスをできるだけ効率化するために、Blenderを使おうと思っている。Blenderで3Dシーンをもっと作って、背景を早く完成させようと思っています。現在、アウトラインはMMOシリーズのキャラクターが中心で、背景はまだ手をつけていません 第15章は37ページあるので、早く完成させたいですね。

ちょっと勉強が必要ですが、来週には背景のサンプルをお見せできると思います。

I plan to do more fan animations in the future for sure! Though, as for right now, I’d like to try something a little different. I’m currently working on the next video, however, it’s not going to be an animation! Instead, I plan to draw animatics to help visualise the story that I’ll be narrating in the video! You’ll be right to compare it to a ‘story time’ video, but I personally feel that it may not belong in that category. I guess we’ll only be able to tell when the video is more concrete, haha.

今後もファンアニメは必ずやっていこうと思っています。でも、今はちょっと違うことをやってみたいと思っています。今、次のビデオを制作しているのですが、これはアニメーションではありません。その代わりに、映像の中で私が語る物語を視覚化するために、アニマティクスを描く予定です ストーリータイムと比較されるのは当然ですが、個人的にはそのカテゴリーには入らないかもしれないと思っています。もっと具体的な映像になってからでないと分からないと思いますが、ハハハ。

Warm Ups + Studies | ウォームアップとスタディ:

I managed to practice more gestures and colour studies this week, though I swapped a day to practice a little anatomy instead as I felt I could do better in the torso region. I plan to practice more torsos next week! Hopefully I can make them look sexier, haha.

今週はジェスチャーとカラースタディの練習を増やしましたが、トルソーの部分でもっとうまくできると思ったので、代わりに解剖学を少し練習する日に替えました。来週はもっと胴体の練習をしようと思っています。もっとセクシーに見えるといいんだけど。

Before I conclude this week’s update, there are a few things I’d like to mention and discuss. The topics are as such:

1.) I plan to implement a flat donation function to randowis.com for those who would like to support me, but are not interested in joining a monthly subscription.

I’ve never thought too deeply about this when I rebuilt my site a year ago, and my humblest apologies for only realising it now. As the topic suggests, I’d like to implement this function for those who would like to drop some spare support for RandoWis, but aren’t interested in joining a subscription model, be it here or pixivFANBOX.

2.) I plan to display Supporter-Only posts on the homepage of randowis.com, specifically under the ‘Recent Posts’ section.

My fear ever since I rebuilt my site was supporters there not realising that there are Supporter-Only posts which they have the privilege to view. I tried to rectify this paranoia by placing a banner image on the homepage indicating to everyone that a “Supporter’s Newsfeed” exists, but it’s only helped so much. After thinking about this for a while, I’ve decided to implement this change. This way, upon visiting the site, supporters are more likely to realise that a Supporter-Only post has been made! Not to worry though, non-supporters will still not be able to access the content of these posts, they’ll only be able to see that a supporter-only post has been uploaded.

3.) Sponsorships for YouTube videos moving forward.

Finally, the topic that’s been most recent on my mind, but I feel is the heaviest. As I’ve been focusing on making animations more, this has resulted in more frequent uploads on the YouTube channel. While I constantly remind myself to do what I do NOT for views, I cannot deny that these recent animations has garnered some attention, which consequently has resulted in certain companies approaching me to capitalise on said attention with sponsorships. I have turned down most of these approaches as my principles simply will not allow me to market something I do not use myself.

I mention this because, for a while, I’ve felt that accepting ANY form of sponsorship would be an insult to the support I’ve received here, and on pixivFANBOX. I was afraid of coming off as ungrateful, and so I’ve held back on making a decision ever since being approached the first time. However, with the success of the Puss plush collaboration with Makeship, I have reflected further on my personal stances.

It’s taken a bit of self-convincing but I’ve decided that, should a company approach me with a sponsorship whose product I am inclined to use myself and should they not request any form of censorship of my content, I will accept. I feel like this would be the best approach for future sponsorships, as my content would not be affected, hence the support here not being taken for granted, and I wouldn’t be denying my family and I any financial earnings from misplaced principles.

Why I’m saying all of this here, to you, is because I’d like your feedback on these matters, should you have any. RandoWis has always been built, not just on the back of my efforts alone, but with the support of the fans as well. I may just be overthinking and blowing this out of proportion, but I try to hold myself to a high standard that I can be proud of, and one you can sit behind. Unfortunately I got a little lost in this pursuit, so I would like to hear your thoughts. Have I missed the mark with these changes or opinions, or do you agree? Let me know!

I may or may not bring up the point of sponsorships in a future YouTube video, but I’m letting you know here first in case it happens!

今週の更新を終える前に、いくつか触れておきたいことがあります。それは、次のようなことです。

1.) randowis.comに、私を応援したいけど月額会員になるのはちょっと...という方のために、一律の寄付機能を実装しようと思っています。

1年前にサイトを再構築したときは、このことについて深く考えたことがなかったのですが、今になって気がついたことを謹んでおわびします。そこで、「RandoWisにお金を寄付したいけど、月額会員になるのはちょっと...」という方のために、このような機能を実装したいと思います。

2.) randowis.comのトップページ、特に「最近の投稿」セクションにサポーター限定の投稿を表示する予定です。

私のサイトを再構築して以来、私が恐れていたのは、サポーターの方々が、サポーター限定の投稿があり、それを見る特権があることに気付かないことでした。この被害妄想は、トップページに「サポーターズ・ニュースフィード」があることを示すバナー画像を設置することで修正しようとしましたが、それほどの助けにはなりませんでした。そこで、しばらく考えた末に、この変更を実施することにしました。こうすることで、サポーターの方がサイトを訪れたときに、サポーター限定の投稿があったことに気づきやすくなります。ただし、サポーター以外の方は、サポーター限定の投稿がアップされたことを知るだけで、その投稿の内容にはアクセスできませんので、ご安心ください。

3.) YouTube動画へのスポンサーシップを推進します。

最後に、一番最近気になっていたけれど、一番重いと感じている話題です。アニメーションの制作に力を入れるようになり、YouTubeチャンネルにアップロードする回数が増えました。再生回数のためにやっているのではない、と常に自分に言い聞かせているのですが、最近のアニメーションが注目されていることは否定できず、その結果、ある企業がその注目度に乗じてスポンサーにならないか、と持ちかけてきています。私は、自分では使わないものを売り込むことを原則的に許さないので、これらのアプローチのほとんどを断ってきました。

というのも、私は以前から、いかなる形のスポンサーシップも、ここやrandowis.comで受けたサポートに対する侮辱になると感じていたからです。というのも、これまでスポンサーシップを受けることは、このサイトやrandowis.comで受けた支援に対する侮辱になるのではないかと思っていたからです。しかし、Makeshipとのコラボレーションによるプスぬいぐるみの成功で、さらに自分のスタンスを見つめ直しました。

少し悩んだのですが、もし、私自身が使いたいと思う商品を扱っている企業がスポンサーになってくれるなら、そして、私のコンテンツに検閲を要求してこないなら、お引き受けすることにしました。私のコンテンツが影響を受けることはなく、したがって、ここでのサポートが当然というわけでもなく、誤った理念から私と家族の経済的利益を否定することもないので、これが今後のスポンサーシップのための最良の方法だと思うのです。

なぜ、このようなことを皆さんに申し上げたかというと、これらのことについて皆さんのご意見を伺いたいからです。RandoWisは、私一人の力だけでなく、ファンの方々の支えがあって成り立っているものです。私が考えすぎて大げさになっているだけかもしれませんが、私自身が誇りを持てるような、そして皆さんが納得できるような、そんな高い水準を目指しているつもりです。残念ながら、私はこの追求に少し迷いが生じたので、皆さんのご意見をお聞かせください。このような変化や意見に的外れなものがあったのか、あるいは同意されますか？ぜひお聞かせください。
