Savant Class v.5.1.0 - Update!

Happy Tuesday (Brewsday?) all!

Today, I’ve got a small update for the Savant Class and a large update for the Savant: Expanded compendium. The 5.0 update for the Savant came with some pretty big changes for the class, and I got a lot of great feedback on those changes. This update makes some small (but significant) tweaks to the base Savant, while bringing the Savant: Expanded options up to speed with the latest version of the class. Full change log is below!

As always, let me know what you think of the update in the comments!

Savant Class v5.1.0

Adroit Analysis:

This is the Savant’s key ability (comparable to Rage), and with all the changes in the last update, it came out a little bit too strong. Imposing disadvantage on all attack rolls your Focus makes against you was moved back to 9th level with Predictive Expert, and you can no longer cast spells while you have a Focus at all (unless you are an Archaeologist). The bonus damage was also limited to once on your turn (allowing Calculated Defense to stay as part of the class unchanged).

Predictive Defense:
This is no longer limited to just light and medium armor! This new version is intended to work with all types of AC calculations except for spells (like mage armor).

Academic Disciplines:
The Archaeologist can now explicitly cast/concentrate on spells you produce with magic items, scrolls, and potions! Investigator’s had their capabilities with Devious Flourish scaled back just a bit. The Naturalist’s Call of the Wild ability is now a little more limited in the creatures it can charm. The Physician has had its ability to use Healer’s Kits (which are very cheap) dialed back - hopefully it is still a competitive healer!

Scholarly Pursuits:
In general, if you pick one of these that stacks with another skill you already add your Intellect Die to, you now roll the Intellect Die twice and use the higher roll. Quick Study also had the weapon proficiency removed as an option - if you want to be a full-martial Savant you’re going to need to (1) play a martial race, (2) take a Feat, or (3) play a Tactician.
