Testing Jon's Journal #2
Added 2023-01-30 18:00:06 +0000 UTCOK, so we may have lost the original edit of this episode and for right now this is the quality with which I have to work. I wanted to test out the concept with you folks. I took the old version and dripped artwork on top of the footage when I thought it appropriate. What do you think?

As much as I enjoy your expressive face, I think the graphics add to the story. As long as you don't disappear.

The image's add to the narrative and using the movement and fades in the paintings (first used by Ken Burns in the Civil War PBS series) adds to the immersion as you narrate the story. It worked for Ken Burns (obviously) and I think it will serve you well. ~ God Bless

2023-01-30 20:17:39 +0000 UTCI think relevant images used selectively can enhance this sort of spoken narrative every bit as much as the illustrations in a book help with the telling of a tale. I especially liked the βfadesβ (in @ 4:04 from you speaking to slicing carrots and out again @ 4:23 from Brandon drinking coffee back to you speaking). Those felt like a much more comfortable change of focus (IMHO). Perhaps that would not make a big difference in a longer video where a particular image remains onscreen for a minute or two. But in in a shorter video, I think they made for a much smoother transition. My two shillingsβ¦

2023-01-30 19:06:15 +0000 UTCHaving not read the journal of Nicholas Creswell yet, was he the eldest son or does he have older brother(s). For many families of this time period the entire family inheritance went to the 1st born son, any born afterwards had to strike out on their own and come to America insearch of a livelyhood..successful or not..thankyou Jon and crew this is great!
