Cabin Work

We just finished up putting the new brick floor in the hearth of the cabin.  It will be a fun video and there's a little behind the scenes stuff coming probably next week. This morning it was just so beautiful I had to go out and get some pictures, although this one might be on the bleak side. My wife says the cabin pictures always look lonely.

I like both the color version and the black and white. Leaning more to the black and white. It looks like a photo from another era. An authentic feel to it.

Craig Beaty

Thanks for the pictures. They make me want to be there. The brick hearth video sounds interesting.

So beautiful Jon - It reminds me of a Currier and Ives Painting, or a cover of a Saturday Evening Post magazine from back in my youth. Aaron your cinematography is truly art. You keep us sane Jon - I hope we do the same for you. Peace and Love

I also notice--hmmm...no snow--despite it being January in Indiana. Not really a good thing--hope you get some moisture soon!

Brigit Zent

The cabin looks beautiful and peaceful, Jon. Looking forward to the video and the behind-the-scenes footage. Great cinematography, Aaron.

LOVELY black and white photo of the cabin. I would imagine there WERE times when folks living in their cabins on the frontier were a bit lonely--so it's fitting.

Brigit Zent

Just imagine a family of five or six living through the winter in the cabin. That warms it up, and I agree about smoke curling out of the chimney. Thanks for the pix. I, too, am looking forward to the video. Thanks for the work to create that. And, thank you, Aaron, for the cinematography!

Thanks for the post! I am looking forward to the brick laying episode! I love the black & white photo, it looks very authentically old. Sure, it looks a bit lonely, but wasn't winter on the frontier a bit like that?

Lane Andress

It looks bleak because of the sky and the trees being barren. But would a regular homestead (whether on the frontier or not) look unlived in like this building?

Mary Guiso

It does look a little lonely and harsh, but that sums up wintertime on the frontier, doesn’t it? It’s a great picture.

Plain Jane

It does sort of look lonely in it's own way but I think it looks great.

Carl Loar

A peaceful winter day. Not jammed up with a bunch of other people. Thank you for taking the time to send a photo.

Carol Ciampanella

I love it! I think it looks evocative, nostalgic, and with a touch of historical romanticism, even though we all know that was/is really hard work to build and maintain!

Peaceful. As per heat. My husband’s family had a cabin from the mid 1800’s and once the fireplace was going for about 24 hours the logs would keep the heat reflecting in and it would stay cozy with just the fire.

Quicksilver

Thanks much for the pic. It's peaceful and nostalgic.

Victoria Sweeney

Lonely? Why, it just needs a nice plume of smoke curling out of the chimney to give it that "lived in" look.

Ed Hanley

Not lonely Jon - Atmospheric :-)

Julian Corbett

You want the cabin to look really lonely, find some way to have "Ashokan Farewell" playing in the background of some videos of the cabin sitting empty :-)

George Page (Jaji)

Wonderful picture, looking forward to the brick laying video. Stay warm!

James Neeley

How well does the cabin retain heat when you get the fire going real well? The sequence of building the cabin is one of the coolest things floating around on YouTube.
