2022-04-10 08:23:27 +0000 UTCThere's a lot of nuance to be found. The concerns about Patreon shutting the sites down are real. And cryptocurrency might serve as a backup. But it's impractical for most people and difficult to use. And that's ignoring the transaction fees and environmental impact of PoW blockchains: those are real concerns too. NFTs are an interesting technology in theory. But in practice, the technology is a solution looking for a problem. It doesn't make a lot of sense. I hope these problems will be solved in the future, but for now it makes no sense to implement them on the sites. So it was a good subject for a prank, I think.

I mean crypto... come on, it's been there for years and used for all kinds of purposes, I'd only disagree with using it as a paywall or other weird implementation. NFT's I admittedly didn't look into much... partly because I stay away from things that get popular too fast, I'm used to assuming they must be garbage since the mainstream is attracted to whatever is cool that day like flies to the toilet, I heard the basics about how they work and was like "meh".
