So I really wanted to get an animation released earlier, however my trusty old gpu, an AMD R9 390X from ~2015, has finally died. It served me pretty well until very recently, but it was showing its age and artifacting heavily before finally dying.
Since I use blender so much, getting a NVIDIA card was a no brainer, but as you may well know, the gpu market is pretty bad right now, even worse in my third world country haha. Still, I managed to buy a RTX 3060, it just cost me a kidney and a half (figuratively), but thanks to it, I can now render in cycles at a reasonable speed, that is, when also using blender 3.0 experimental version with cycles x which is much faster.
In case you don't know, all my previous renders were in the EEVEE engine which simply put is sort of like how a game renders things, a raster engine, takes shortcuts etc which makes it very fast but not as realistic as the cycles engine, which is a path tracer (raytracing). Cycles rendering wasn't viable for me before but it is now, even in 4k, albeit at a cost, quite a bit longer render times than EEVEE (like 10 seconds per frame vs 30 seconds up to 2 minutes or so, depending on the scene).
Anyway this animation was rendered in cycles, and while I'm mostly happy with how it turned out, I can see some issues still, like the hair shimmers somewhat, possibly because of the shader setup for cycles plus denoising to make rendering faster, and since I could never use cycles extensively before, I've got a bit to learn about it. Still, I'd rather release this now than to take forever on just one animation and not get anything else done so there you have it.
I hope you enjoy as always, and thank you very much for your support, every bit helps and encourages me, it will especially help me this time around after this purchase, and to bring higher quality everything to you patreons now!
