Alternate Rogue: Expanded - Early Release!

At long last I am able to post this massive compendium of expanded content for my Alternate Rogue Class! Included here are a number of new goodies:

Advanced Devious Exploits: Some of these are making appearances from other Alternate Martial classes, but the vast majority are NEW (and pretty cool IMO).

Roguish Feats: Again, some Alternate versions of official Feats, and a few new Feats that allow any character to add some Roguish flair to their character.

Roguish Archetypes: I've updated all eight of my Roguish Archetypes to work with the Alternate Rogue class. Play as a infernal Bloodknife, a high-flying Daredevil, an adrenaline junkie Gambler, a zealous Justicar, a brutish Ruffian, an explosive Saboteur, a primal Skinchanger, or a meticulous Surgeon!

Hope you all enjoy, I'll be posting this publicly some time in the next few day, so until then, enjoy the exclusive preview!

Alternate Rogue: Expanded - Early Release!

Comments

yeah that's fair, any thoughts on a potential replacement for Thousand Forms on the Ranger?

Crow's Parliament

I guess my thoughts are that I designed it that way on purpose. Druids get full spellcasting up to 9th-level spells, and the ability to cast those spells while they are Wild Shaped.

Hey, not sure how much I like the Shapechanger getting essentially a better wild shape than druids at seventeenth level. CR 2 beasts, infinite time in Wild Shape and up to 7 wild shapes per rest, as well as this and the Druidic Guardian ranger getting bonus action wild shapes, makes it really strong HP wise, even if it's a little low on damage and has far slower progression than druids. Mechanically it works overall, if a little powerful at level 17 for the rogue, but flavour-wise it conflicts, same as the ranger version getting beast forms as high as CR 5 and the Mood Druid's capstone ability, it just feels odd to have a subclass get "feature, but better". any thoughts on this?

Crow's Parliament

You do need to hit with an attack to use Cunning Strike.

Since Cunning Strike says "whenever you add your Sneak Attack bonus damage to a weapon attack," does that mean you have to actually hit with the attack first? I guess the real point of this question is, can you use Precision Strike via Cunning Strike?

The Ruffian's Shake Down ability still affects Strength (Intimidation) rolls, but unlike the old version of the Ruffian, it doesn't seem to have any ability explicitly allowing the use of Strength for Intimidation checks. (Also, does the Ruffian have any way to damage enemies that can't be harmed by nonmagical weapons?) The old version of the Justicar seemed stronger to me, but I admit I'm not fond of warlock-style spellcasting on 1/3-casters. I'm also really not fond of the Gambler's Lucky Streak -- I feel like an ability that comes with such a large downside needs to help *more* than it hurts. It does fit the subclass's flavor perfectly, though. Other than that, this is really cool. I really like the updates to the Saboteur and Skinchanger. The Bloodknife seems almost outlandishly brutal at level 17, but I guess every level 17+ class feature in the game is kinda crazy.
