Added 2019-07-24 00:41:28 +0000 UTCWaves of new Magic products continue to hit the magic market every 30 days. This appears to be continuing through the rest of the year. While i do see a lot of wallet fatigue, the overall economy and strength of the magic market is extremely healthy. I am very surprised by this, i honestly expected the economy to experience a slow down and wallet fatigue to slow the "hype/growth" of new mtg products.
This does NOT appear to be the case. Hasbro is leveraging the mtg brand for digital and the new Netflix show to bring players to the game vs. relying on the LGS business model from the 90's. I think this is the correct and smart move for the company into the future. I believe rising prices and higher MSRP for ALL printed cards is going to continue as we move into a "flashy" magic card future with "premium/rare variants" of cards.
Commander 2019 will be sold at release date - August 23rd 2019 - Pre-orders will open about 10 days before that with a 24 hour warning. Still waiting on quantity and pricing from distributors.
A lot of hype is already building for the October 4th 2019 release of Throne of Eldraine
Wizards has decided to discontinue the "mythic TIMMY box" for obvious reasons and problems. They will be launching a "collectors" booster box along side the normal booster boxes at release. They are going to contain 12 booster packs of "super/premium/varient" versions of cards for a very EXPENSIVE price. I am expecting the open market to price these at $210.00 at release and distributors to sell them to stores at around $175-$185 per small special box. So far i am getting word that distributors are only offering me about 18 "collectors" boxes.
Therefore i will NOT be offering this item to the patrons. If i can get a couple hundred from other sources/stores then i might be able to sell some, but i do not think that is going to happen.
I do NOT recommend buying into the hype as we approach release, nor "investing" in this new flashy card era of magic products. This is a similar direction as the sports card world has gone, releasing flashy limited versions of the same cards. Im sure they will be beautiful and collectible but i do NOT consider them investments for magic players.
I do believe distributing these items with LGS's and distributors is the correct thing to do vs. direct to consumer website/ebay selling. Even if stores only get a couple each, it is a nice "thank you" product that LGS's can actually make easy money on, and most of these stores around the country need something like this and deserve something like this.
From a consumer standpoint, use caution, if they choose to print more and the print run gets an additional injection, it could wreck the prices and sealed market for flashy markets. If the supply remains insanely low, expect extremely high prices for the average consumer, in which most people should avoid the product and buy cheaper products like Commander 2019 or Modern horizons.
I do believe we still have a flashy "modern masters" style surprise set coming in the 4th quarter.
Similar to the surprise release of Ultimate masters in 2018 from the previous year.

So, 20 boxes coming in with 3000+ Patreons to hook up. Offer what..first come, first serve? Highest tier only? Say Rudy offers it for 20 peeps. Complaining starts, multiple email complaints, peeps blow up chat. People feel marginalized, bad blood all around. I would do the same thing...not worth it.

Kinda seems like you want people avoiding it so you can buy up more of the boxes yourself. If they’re going to be more limited and scarce, it sounds like you don’t want the competition. And what does “premium” really mean for a magic set? Variant art I get, but unless they’re printed on something other than card stock, this sounds like a marketing gimmick.

It has a unique land set, unique (majority) straight to modern cards, highly sought after foils, and will be a highly sought after draft set once supply dwindles. Personally would rate it a near 9/10 sealed booster box overall. 2 boxes of War of the spark, as it is a FULLY unique set to standard...no other booster box will have a planeswalker in every pack for at LEAST a few years if not a decade+, also making it a highly sought after box for drafting once no longer avail. Be prepared to hold both for 5yrs+ if necessary to realize gains.

Bought into a case of War of the Spark, went into a very disastrous thunder dome for 2 boxes of ultimate masters. But it was fun to watch and made it worthwhile. His insights are usually pretty on point, but he has been wrong here and there. It’s also a matter of thinking for yourself and make your own decision.

I’ve only been a patron for 2 months, but I’ve placed 2 monthly orders and I opted in on the sweet MH1 and Core2020 combo box. Sometimes the corners on the booster boxes can get a little beaten up by the time they arrive (not a big deal to me) but they usually come within a week and as ordered at an extremely good price. You receive tracking notifications within a few days of placing our order so you can follow the package to your doorstep. I’m a very satisfied customer and enjoy your box opening and market/investment discussion videos on youtube as well. Keep rocking Rudy!

It’s also the ONLY way to get cards with newer borders. That specialization is going to be insane with the timmy’s. 2019-07-24 01:48:17 +0000 UTCI think the best bet is get 1 collector timmy booster, and sit on it till they say out of print. Depends on the hype the spoilers bring us. As usual the 1 to 3 cost things that do the broken things will be for modern , those usually spike unless they include it in any set product like plains walkers decks. Otherwise sticking with 1 box plus the 1 collector pack they put in the prerelease boxes.
