3/30/3018 Important Updates
Added 2018-03-30 23:44:14 +0000 UTCLets start with the most suspicious.
Revised Dual Lands across the board are disappearing on ebay/tcgplayer I believe a large investor or a major store like is buying them up quietly. The number of dual lands is decreasing by 1-4% EVERY DAY. The prices are quietly moving up.
Since Arabian Nights/Antiquites/Legends have been mostly bought up by stores/investors at this point we are starting to see money moving into Alliance cards (land cycle/rares) Tempest Rares, and of course the continued push into Urza's Foils and other older foils (7th edition).
It also appears all UNLIMITED edition cards are being bought up...even commons.
I believe Revised edition cards even with the HIGH print run will start to become expensive over the next 5 years.
Alpha/Beta will continue to hit insane levels, that are difficult to grasp moving into the future as they become "museum" pieces.
Next, the discontinuing of Modern/Eternal Masters into these "themed" sets, has caused all legacy/modern cards to skyrocket in price.
Liliana,Snap,Fetches...etc...
I do NOT recommend buying into these items, Wizards is in a position where they NEED to have sales/revenue, they WILL tap into this secondary market on a future product to capitalize it with some form of "master/Premium" product. I would be very very careful buying these very pricey cards that could easily take 30-60% hits.
There is a group of investors targeting Lottery cards from BFZ/Oath and Kaladesh/Aether. They are going to continue to buy these cards out. They know these sets are about to rotate out of standard and be out of print within the next 3-4 months. I have no idea what the intentions of these people are if they are going to hold the cards or dump them on the market, use caution as the depth/quantity of lottery cards is pretty big in size and a true buyout that holds will be very difficult. I do not believe whoever is doing this has the capital to see it through.
As crazy as it sounds...but if any new set is going to appreciate over the coming 5 year period the odds are tilted on kaladesh/Aether.
The Challenger decks are NOT going to have any impact on crushing prices or lowering single card values. As of right now i have asked about 15 stores and all stores are getting literally 1-2 cases per store. The supply is so low its almost like a From The Vault product. I am expecting something stupid like 1 case per distributor :-( And to be completely honest, if you can get them for under 100.00 i would buy them for fun, but i would not invest in a reprint product with nothing special about it. I think its a flash in the pan product.
Dominaria is probably going to be a powerhouse on sales. It will probably shatter sales records and be a new playing field for the next couple years. I do NOT expect to run out of boxes since it is a standard magic set and it will be the normal 79.99 a box. I will start preorders 1-2 weeks out. No real rush.
As weird as it sounds, i actually do believe wizards is going to throttle back on print runs and the products due to all the problems/collapses in box pricing in the last year. They are very slow to react but i think it is coming. We already saw Hour of devastation taken out of print early.
Im going to try a Final Fantasy Trilogy Case also Opus I,II,III,IV,V
Thanks again everyone
New product list will be out on 4/1/2018 at night

Masters was such a crap shoot. My LGS insists the set is value because the average return from box is $90 today and it will only rise over time. I however do not see how spending 200 on a box, getting $90 back, selling it to them for $45 is a good return on investment.
2018-04-05 03:13:12 +0000 UTCditto on the coupon comment.... 15-20% off on top of 8-10% back in ebay bucks pretty much every other day for the last few weeks... ive picked up some beautifully cheap scores

2018-04-01 17:19:19 +0000 UTCI think the sales on Dominaria will be good, but the sting of Masters 25 is going to leave a bitter after taste with some folks (including myself) and the fact that images were posted on Reddit of ink splattered masters 25 cards along with the comments on card bending are going to impact things. I know I'm not buying any Dominaria after the deathblow that happened with the last set until I see the cards getting opened for at least two weeks.

2018-04-01 01:08:41 +0000 UTCHaha 3018!!!!!
2018-04-01 00:59:19 +0000 UTCI've learned a ton since I started watching Rudy. I just picked up sealed boxes from my LGS: 2 Urza's Saga, 1 Urza's Legacy, 1 Urza's Destiny, 1 Exodus. Would have gotten more but it was all they had o.O
2018-03-31 21:04:56 +0000 UTCI have no confirmation that something is afoot with Beta cards, but I just sold a heavily played Granite Gargoyle for $50, which I put that high, thinking that it wouldn't sell.
2018-03-31 18:09:49 +0000 UTCDuals on eBay are being eaten up by all of the coupons lately I would imagine
2018-03-31 06:26:38 +0000 UTCWhat's your price point to sell Rudy? I know you say you won't sell, but I feel like what you mean is that it's very, very high. There's a dollar amount economically at which anyone sells. How high is it really?
2018-03-31 06:00:12 +0000 UTCAre you going to offer Challenger Decks to Patrons?
2018-03-31 03:14:05 +0000 UTCIs the crazy eBay promotions any part of this, or is this larger than that?
2018-03-31 03:11:33 +0000 UTC50/50 split

2018-03-31 01:02:38 +0000 UTCi am in the process of breaking down the gift boxes, and getting rid of all the massive amounts of extra cardboard...it will probably be 1-3 months before i get that done, it is not a priorirty right now
Rudy The Magic Guy
2018-03-31 01:02:20 +0000 UTCi agree 100% about eldritch moon
Rudy The Magic Guy
2018-03-31 01:01:18 +0000 UTCmost print runs between 96-99 were within the same range, but i think all the exodus/tempest/stronghold/weatherlight/visions...etc...are going to continue to rise as they age, believe it or not ice age/4th edition had the largest print runs, and the later sets were reduced
Rudy The Magic Guy
2018-03-31 01:01:02 +0000 UTCagreed, i thought they would print them like commander decks where we could order as much as we want, i was wrong
Rudy The Magic Guy
2018-03-31 00:59:49 +0000 UTCmost stores are getting 1 case which is 4 displays...

2018-03-31 00:59:10 +0000 UTCproblably not, i dont have the capacity to bring up extra product lines right now

2018-03-31 00:58:51 +0000 UTCHey Creepy Rudy! How much of this do you think is price manipulation versus legitimate supply and demand?
2018-03-31 00:29:36 +0000 UTCWow the update is for 3018? That's impressive.

2018-03-31 00:16:52 +0000 UTCWell, that sucks about the dual lands. I just started Magic again and need to obtain some. I know firmly regret selling out in '95 or '96 as I only got $30 per dual land back then...
2018-03-31 00:16:46 +0000 UTCBro!, I need cases cause my squad wants to battle!
2018-03-31 00:12:34 +0000 UTCAre you still planning on selling the gift boxes? I want those lands but I've been holding off hoping to get a sweet deal on multiple boxes.
2018-03-31 00:04:44 +0000 UTCI've notice a similar trend as it's been difficult to stay on top of my inventory sheet on a regular basis. This week alone some of them have gone up multiple times across different sources. I agree that something funny is going on.
2018-03-31 00:04:01 +0000 UTCWould add Eldritch Moon to the list of recent sets likely to uptick even though lacking lottery cards.
2018-03-31 00:01:55 +0000 UTCIf I want a playset of lotus petals, opening up an entire starter deck brick should cover that, right ;-)
2018-03-30 23:59:39 +0000 UTCGood thing I completed my set of dual lands already :)
Grey Shirt Guy
2018-03-30 23:59:03 +0000 UTCAre there any sets between Alliances and Urza's Destiny which you either like a lot or don't like for some reason? They all have reserved list cards and seem attractive for getting even loose boosters and starter decks for people on a budget who want to get in on the action. For example, Tempest (large set) doesn't have great reserved list cards, but Stronghold and Exodus (both small sets) have at least 1 extremely good reserved list card, so I wonder how you'd compare those types of sets. Not sure if the print runs were significantly different or not between 96-99 or if basically anything revised or after (especially 4th and Ice Age) were just really high runs.
2018-03-30 23:57:45 +0000 UTCThat's too bad to hear about the Challenger decks was looking forward to picking a set up.
2018-03-30 23:53:47 +0000 UTCThanks Rude Dude
2018-03-30 23:53:12 +0000 UTCThanks for the post Rudy. I’m pretty psyched for Dominaria and watching one of your latest YouTube videos makes me want to buy a Tempest booster box. That reminds me, can you loan me a thousand dollars? Haha. JK.
2018-03-30 23:49:35 +0000 UTCIs it odd that my LGS is getting more than 4 cases of the challenger decks?
