OP Sister Chapter 502: The Next Morning

-----

Indeed, the Protagonist Sister faces all manner of terrible incidents or gets hunted by fearsome enemies to create high stakes.

My high Charm and negative Luck make me the perfect bait for these disastrous events.

This is why I wanted to grow strong, to be prepared for whatever life throws my way.

But that’s not important right now.

“Can I have seconds?” Kevin asked.

“Sure thing, there’s plenty more. We made an extra batch in case anyone wanted seconds,” Henrietta said. “Hilda, it’s ready by now, right?”

“Oh yeah, wait here please!” Hilda stepped through a portal into her forge, and we heard an annoyed voice from within.

“It’s done… I made sure it didn’t burn as you ordered me, master… uhh, please don’t make me do this again,” the voice said. “I don’t want to cook… my flames are meant for forging rare materials and metals… not… not lasagna.”

“Aw come on, it was just a small favor. Don’t get grumpy, here,” Hilda replied.

“A Fire Spirit Stone? Master, do you think a mere stone could buy me? Oh, it’s a big one! And the quality is high too!”

As Hilda stepped out of the portal and it closed, we could hear her Forging Spirit munching on the Fire Spirit Stone. It seemed to be his favorite treat.

“Alright, done… haha, sorry about that, he can be grumpy sometimes,” Hilda giggled. “It’s piping hot and ready!”

“Nice!” Kevin beamed with delight.

“Hm, I wouldn’t mind seconds…” Baihe nodded.

“Me too! Me too!” Annabelle waved her fork and knife eagerly.

“I suppose I’ll have seconds as well,” I nodded.

“Alright then, everyone gets another slice!” Henrietta said, giggling charmingly.

And so, we enjoyed a delightful evening savoring lasagna, then gathered around the bonfire to share stories about life. My brother and Henrietta retired early, while we stayed up late swapping ghost stories, nibbling on s’mores, and sipping cold, sugary drinks.

As Henrietta promised, her barrier was remarkable. No monsters disturbed us.

…

Early in the morning, I woke on the bed I’d brought from my room, placed inside my tent. Unlike my brother, I hadn’t crafted a new floor, so it rested on the barren ground. It didn’t bother me.

“Hm? Ah… right.”

Stirring under the warm morning sunlight, I noticed my pets curled up beside me, claiming nearly all the space on my oversized bed.

But someone else was there too, and no, it wasn’t Fang Shuan. He was in his tiniest form, loyally guarding me by a small table beside the bed. Though he sometimes dozed off, like now, fast asleep.

The extra presence in my bed was… well, her.

“Hmm…”

Baihe shifted lazily, hugging me from behind, her face nuzzling my back before she drifted back to sleep.

It was either sharing my bed or letting her sleep on the floor, so I invited her to join me. She worried about being a bother, but after I insisted she could never be, she relented.

Sharing a bed with a friend is perfectly normal anyway. She was just being overly shy about it.

Judging by how comfortably she’s hugging me now, I’d say she’s warmed up to the idea…

“Oh, hi, are you guys awake?”

My pets began to stir. Violet woke first, followed by Snow and Shiro. Meanwhile, Goldie was either sleeping or half-awake and nibbling at me. Thankfully, they were asleep now.

“Krieeeh…”

Violet nudged his little head against my hand, demanding pets as usual… This sparked a hint of jealousy in Snow and Shiro.

“Come on, guys, I’ve got hands for everyone.”

My Aura shaped into multiple hands, and I petted them all gently…

“Alright then, while everyone’s still asleep, shall we evolve you?”

I slipped out of bed quietly, leaving Baihe to cuddle the pillows instead. Once free, I stepped into the Purgatory Realm, sensing the presences of the Demons within.

The newest member of our crew, Demon King Nemesis, lingered calmly somewhere in the forests. I ignored them for now. I hadn’t come to chat, though I should probably update them about Lucifer soon.

“This is a nice spot… Ahh, it's nostalgic.”

I smiled faintly, standing on the grand terrace of the Heavenly Empress’s Golden Palace, surrounded by lush vegetation, Martial Treasures, and Heavenly Herbs my mother had cultivated here.

Her presence lingered, woven into everything around me. Being here stirred memories of everyone I left behind in Bestia.

And damn, it brought a tear to my eye…

“Raar?”

Violet, sensing my mood, rubbed his antennae against my hand. I responded by patting his head gently.

“Hehe, don’t worry, I’m alright…” I giggled. “Alright then! Shall we begin? System, I know that after I completed the Trial, they did too, and they earned the right to evolve, right?”

My familiars could evolve normally before, but as my companions, they gained special benefits. If they reached a certain rank and learned enough from that world, they could unlock Special Unique Evolutions. That’s why I’d held off on evolving them the usual way, using compatible materials.

Though I might still need those materials, I have been keeping them for now. The System responded swiftly, sending a stream of new notifications.
