Demigod Class Ascension Chapter 1: Awakening (NEW NOVEL IDEA)

Author's Note: Okay so I've been writing a little something in the last few weeks, I wanted to write a generic story and give it my own spin, the usual LitRPG Apocalypse with a manly male main character with an overpowered class nobody else has. It might seem generic at first, but you'll quickly find the "flavor" I've added, it is much more emotional than the usual stories, and there will also be a much better goal for the main character other than just "i want to get stronger because its fun or something". This novel is also connected to another of my novels, but it is made in a way that those that didnt read it can enjoy it anyway, so please give it a try and tell me what you think.
-----

Across all the Mondays he had lived, Will could swear this had been his worst so far. His usual nightmares kept him awake through most of the night, so he was barely able to sleep. A few of his coworkers ended up not coming to the job, so he was forced to do all of their work himself with the promise of a raise in his salary. Right now he was driving a truck around the city carrying over a dozen metallic pipes. He had yet to even have his breakfast; he felt hungry, grumpy, and stressed.

“Again?!”

He glared at the traffic. His baggy eyes looked like they were about to give up at any moment, and he seemed like he had had his soul drained out of his body for skipping breakfast, a very important thing for someone with such a huge body that consumed a lot of energy every day.

Despite his gifted physique, it could be said Will looked pretty average, not even handsome: black hair and blue eyes. Well, some may say that having blue eyes could make him above average, but so far through his life, it hasn’t given him any advantage in society.

If anything, it could be said Will’s only talent was his large body and unnaturally high stamina. Perhaps the only thing he had going for him, his parents left him in an orphanage when he was born, and he grew up with little else than himself and the unruly children of the orphanage that only made things harder for him.

Opportunities? To be fair, he was never given one. His grades were never the best, but not the worst. Some of his teachers, however, seemed to have seen some sort of brilliance in his eyes, often telling him that if he tried harder, he could get far in life.

But Will never tried; he knew that it would be pointless in the end. He always thought that in this world, if you aren’t born into a nice family, you’re condemned to have a pretty miserable life, barely scraping by with paycheck after paycheck.

Being a construction worker was a perfect job for someone like him. Utilizing his gifted physique to lift heavy objects and work all day was his only talent that in today’s society wasn’t really desired aside from sports and entertainment, which Will never ever considered without proper connections. And well, his usual lack of motivation.

Life, overall, felt uninspiring and boring to him. He had no family to go back to, and the few friends he ever had had had already moved on with their lives, leaving him behind. He often felt lonely, but not sad. If anything, Will enjoyed being left alone.

“Aw come on, what the hell happened? Why aren’t the cars moving?”

He quickly looked out onto the highway through the window, noticing how all the cars in front of him were stuck, unable to move even a single centimeter.

“Huh?”

In the distance, he noticed a huge truck, similar to the one he was driving, probably of the same construction company, which wouldn’t move at all. There were some people walking towards the truck; as he noticed a red-colored liquid covering the floor: the blood of the truck’s driver, most likely.

“Was there a car crash? You have to be kidding me… This is going to take forever, and I have to get back to work in, like, twenty minutes!”

He gritted his teeth angrily, looking at his phone. Ignoring the annoying daily news that always pops up when he checks his phone, he quickly sent a message to his boss that he might get delayed due to traffic. Because he had such huge fingers, though, writing on smartphones was always annoying for him, and if he didn’t treat these little things carefully, he would end up easily breaking their screens.

“Hah…”

As he sighed, resting his head over his seat, he looked at the traffic, noticing that the cops and an ambulance had finally arrived.

“Finally, are they going to clean up or—”

“Aaaaahhh!”

His thoughts were interrupted as Will panicked, hearing the scream in the distance. Glancing behind the truck, he saw a woman running away while the rest of the drivers looked at the scene in awe. She wasn’t running just because, however. There was something chasing her, something that wasn’t really human when looked at closely.

“What?”

It was around the size of an average human, however. But it had green skin, a bald head, pointy ears and nose, and crimson eyes. The thing was wearing leather clothes and carrying a knife made of bone and stone.

Will paused for a moment, unable to rationalize what he was seeing, until the appearance of that thing quickly reminded him of something.

“…A goblin?”

[Congratulations, Earthlings, Planet Earth has been successfully linked with the {Great Beyond}!]

[Initiating assimilation of all Lifeforms…]

[ERROR DETECTED.]

[Planet Earth has yet to be fully awakened. Incredibly low percentage of Mana in the air detected. Average to weak lifeforms detected. No Divine-level lifeform detected.]

[With the lack of a Divinity to guide Humanity, the System will be assigned with the task of taking care of the Awakening Procedure.]

[Initiating Awakening Procedure. Dimensional Assimilation has begun. System Integration has begun. Divinity Channel has opened.]

“What?!”

Will looked into the skies, noticing that what he just heard wasn’t just a voice but a gigantic text above the sky, so huge it was that he was sure the entire city could read it, if they hadn’t heard it already.

And at that moment, Will saw something even more bizarre.

Cracks through all the sky started to appear, the sound of glass breaking and shattering echoing throughout the entire city.

The people started screaming, panicking. Cars began crashing, and some left their cars and ran.

They weren’t running from the voice, but from what the voice brought with it.

“Huh?”

RUMBLE!

The entire highway trembled. The sharp sound of metal being crushed reverberated, people screaming and torn apart, as a giant creature charged towards his truck.

Will could only describe it as something similar to a giant bull made of steel, with blazing, burning horns and crimson-red eyes. While roaring, the monster began crushing cars with its sheer size and strength, seeing the truck as some sort of rival.

“What the hell is that thing?! How is it even moving?”

He quickly started trying to get out of his truck, realizing too late that the driver’s door was locked with a key. He began rapidly trying to find it; his huge fingers weren’t helping, making things more difficult.

“Where is it?! Where’s the key?!”

Half-empty bags of chips, empty energy drink cans, and fast-food bags were thrown into the backseats as he desperately dug through the trash that the owner of the truck had left.

[Dimensional Gates leading to Shattered World Fragments have opened throughout Earth.]

[Tier 1 to Tier 4 Lifeforms have started entering Earth, bringing rich Mana for the Integration Process to be as smooth as possible.]

[Atmospheric Mana has started forming. Awakening Process has officially started.]

[Awakening Tutorial: Phase 1 has begun.]

“Awakening Tutorial?!”

Losing his patience, Will kicked the window open and shattered it, quickly trying to get out of the truck. However, the giant bull reached him before he could jump down, smashing the truck before he could escape.

CRASH!

The rumbling sound of his truck being pushed back and metal bending was deafening. He quickly was forced back inside his truck as Will angrily stepped on the gas pedal, the vehicle rushing over the monster with all of its massive size and weight.

“God damn it!”

The sound of something being crushed and of his truck’s wheels popping echoed behind his ears as he ran over the entire thing before he could think straight. Maybe that monster could crush cars, but a truck was a whole other adversary.

“Did that do it?!”

He looked behind, noticing the giant bull’s body covered with cracks, its metallic exterior unable to protect it from the total weight of a truck. It was still alive though, bleeding, groaning, and twitching in agony.

What’s worse, the truck wouldn’t move anymore. The wheels were completely destroyed; maybe the engine was also damaged. He had to quickly get out before something exploded.

With a powerful kick, he broke the door open and leaped out of the truck as fast as possible, looking around at the chaos engulfing the city. Just a couple of minutes after the voice appeared, several buildings were now burning, cars were crushed and flattened by huge monstrosities, and people were screaming as they were chased by what Will could only describe as goblins.

“Haaa… Man… This is the worst fucking Monday.”

Just when he thought it couldn’t get worse, it got worse.

His eyes flickered as he noticed a new message, a holographic window floating in front of him with glowing letters. Will quickly tried touching that, but it felt like he was just touching the empty air. It was both there and not. Maybe it was all inside his head.

[Awakening Tutorial: Phase 1 has begun.]

[Objective 1: Survive for 7 Days.]

[Objective 2: Slay a Tier 1 or above Lifeform: 1/1] (Complete!)

[Objective 3: Slay 10 Tier 1 or above Lifeforms: 0/10] (New!)

“I… completed one objective?”

As his eyebrows twitched in disbelief, Will noticed the metallic bull he had run over with his truck. It had stopped its futile struggle to remain alive.

[You have slain [Steel Bovine (Tier 2): Lv 7]. You have earned Bonus Experience for slaying a Lifeform above your Tier and Level. You earned 150 Tutorial Points.]

[Congratulations, you have completed Objective 2: Slay a Tier 1 Lifeform.]

[You have received the right to Awaken and receive a Starting Class.]

[Please choose your Class. Awakening will begin once you do.]

“Choose? I have to choose now… What the…?”

Will’s eyes widened as a list of classes appeared in front of him. There were only five of them, and they seemed rather basic.

[Warrior]: A Novice Starting Class for Awakeners, specialized in the usage of close-range weapons and great Stamina to endure prolonged battles. Your best friend is your own body. Strength +6, Vitality +5, Dexterity +2, Agility +2.

[Archer]: A Novice Starting Class for Awakeners, specialized in the usage of long-range weapons, provides increased accuracy, dexterity, and senses. Good for those too afraid to get hurt. Strength +3, Dexterity +6, Agility +3, Senses +3.

[Magician]: A Novice Starting Class for Awakeners, specialized in Spell Casting. Grants a deeper understanding of Magic and the Control of Mana. Forcefully inscribes a Rune of Casting into your Right Hand. Powerful magic, but extremely vulnerable to physical damage. Magic Power +7, Dexterity +3, Agility +2, Senses +3.

[Healer]: A Novice Starting Class for Awakeners, specialized in Holy Arts. Control the Lifeforce of your own body or others and accelerate the natural healing process in the body, restoring wounds or even being able to grant temporary buffs. For those that want to help others. Magic Power +5, Strength +2, Endurance +3, Agility +2, Senses +3.

[Rogue]: A Novice Starting Class for Awakeners, specialized in stealth and surprise attacks. Lower your own presence and hide from enemies to strike from their backs or wield poisonous weapons to weaken them over time. Not for the impatient. Strength +3, Vitality +2, Dexterity +3, Agility +7.

“How am I even going to read all of this right now— Ah!”

Will panicked, noticing something lurking behind him. Call it a sixth sense or whatever, but he was somehow just able to feel that thing. He looked behind him, realizing there was a goblin slowly trying to sneak up on his back while carrying a knife, already covered with the blood of an unfortunate victim.

“Gryaarrr!”

The moment the goblin realized he was noticed, it let out a loud shriek and tried to jump over Will’s face, pointing its knife at his eyes. Will panicked, giving a step back.

“Why you little…!”

With a furious roar, Will swung his right arm down after taking a step back, crushing the goblin’s head with his fist. The creature landed on the ground, its entire skull flattened into the pavement, which gained cracks.

“Huh?”

Will looked at his own hands, realizing how strong he had become… No, had he always been this strong though? Since he was a child, he had problems socializing because of an accident, something he had done that he still regretted now.

A memory he thought forgotten. When he was only six years old, he accidentally broke the arm of a friend when they were playing in the playground. This friend wasn’t his age though; it was a twelve-year-old boy that usually took care of the younger kids. Seeing the splattered brains of the goblin made him realize why he had stopped caring about making friends.

He was afraid of himself, of what he could do to others, always holding back his strength, making sure he wouldn’t hurt people accidentally by just giving them a normal handshake.

“…Why do I feel happy?”

But the scariest thing was that Will was now smiling. His body was constantly sweating, he was breathing heavily, and his heart was beating rapidly. The adrenaline, the emotion of crushing a monster with his bare hands, finally letting go of his own fears, made him smile.

“I have to quickly choose a class and get out of here…”

As he looked at the classes’ descriptions, he considered that he was already strong enough to crush goblin heads.

“What if I get wounded? I should choose Healer, for my own safety, at least. And I could use these powers to become useful for other people, and more valuable… If we’re really in a damn apocalypse, people that can heal others will always be valuable.”

He took into consideration his herculean physique, finding Warrior appealing at first to become even stronger, but in the end, he decided to prioritize his own personal safety, and the added bonus of “being useful to others”—something Will has always strived to be while unconsciously trying to find a place to belong—tempted him to choose Healer, a fairly balanced class stat-wise.

“What?”

As Will started getting excited about gaining something to protect himself from wounds, he panicked, noticing the holographic window beginning to rapidly glitch, showing incoherent numbers and words.

[ERROR.]

[System Integration has failed.]

[Scanning the issue…]

[Scanning success.]

[Traces of Divinity have been found within the user’s Soul.]

[Restarting System Integration Process using the Divine System…]

Will was shocked as he saw bright light surging from his body, and countless rune-like tattoos appearing from his chest throughout the rest of his skin. They glowed with blue and golden light, constantly shifting in form and shape.

“Divinity?! Me?”

[Divine System Integration halted.]

[Unable to properly determine what the user is.]

[Restarting using both the Normal System and the Divine System.]

Will suddenly felt a sharp pain originating from his chest—no, something deeper.

His soul.

He fell to his knees, grasping his chest while almost falling unconscious.

“A-Ahh…!”

Until suddenly, the pain was gone and instead he felt relieved. Deep down, it felt like something within him had been unsealed, a part of something else. Will saw chains—six different chains containing something of immense power. One of those six chains was broken.

“What was that?”

[Integration Success. It has been determined that the user is a lifeform possessing sealed divine power.]

[To create a class for the user, all five starting Classes have been used as materials.]

“No way…”

Will couldn’t believe what was happening as he saw all five class screens mixing together, glitching and then ultimately re-emerging as a golden screen, with a class he never thought possible.

[The {Special Class: Demigod} has been created.]

“I’m… a demigod?”

Despite what this could mean in terms of strength, Will didn’t feel joyful or happy at all. Perhaps most people would be joyful if they got to have such an incredible class, but Will was different. There was something that impacted him more than that.

“My parents…”

His entire life he had wondered who his parents were. He had tried for years to look for them; he spent most of his teenage years investigating online, trying to find them. And now, at the age of 23, he finally gained a clue of what they were, or maybe where they could be.

“My parents were gods?”

[You can now Level Up. Calculating EXP you have gained so far. Applying stored EXP.]

[You have gained Strength +10, Vitality +10, Magic Power +10, Dexterity +10, Agility +10, Senses +10.]

[You gained the Skill: [Pseudo Divine Weapon (Tier 1)]: Manipulate your own Mana and Divine Power and materialize it into a Pseudo Divine Weapon that embodies your true self. If imbued into a physical weapon, the vessel can evolve and gain more power.]

[You gained the Skill: [Sacred Healing (Tier 1)]: Manipulate Lifeforce and Mana and channel your inner Divine Power to heal larger wounds and to recover from poisonous toxins and curses more easily.]

[You gained the Skill: [Pseudo Divine Blessing (Tier 1)]: Use your Divine Power to bless a target, allowing them to awaken to new power. As this Blessing grows within them, a part of their Power and Earned EXP is shared with you, and their loyalty may increase. Limit: 0/3]

“They’re still Tier 1…”

[Because of your lack of Divine Power, you cannot be assigned a High Administrator yet.]

[However, a Novice Administrator will be assigned to you to aid you in developing your Divinity.]

“Hm?”

Will looked at what suddenly appeared in front of him: a small silver-colored cube with an eye-shaped red jewel, glancing at him in silence.

“…”

“…”

In between the sounds of explosions and the screams of people, there was a slightly awkward silence between the two as they started to get to know each other.

“You’re… a Novice Administrator?”

“…I was honestly looking forward to being assigned to a God, but to think you’re just a human.”

“Of course I’m just a human, what else would I be? …And you can speak?!”

“Naturally… However, unlike the lesser lifeforms, I do not require a mouth. My words are directly transmitted into your brain through psychic waves.”

“Ok… Okay… Uh, can you explain to me… what’s going on? I’m so confused… Like, ten minutes ago I was just going to deliver some metal pipes and now… What the fuck is going on, man?!”

“…The Awakening. Your Planet has been assimilated into the {Great Beyond}, and due to its lack of Mana, it has been given the opportunity to develop Atmospheric Mana and Awakened Individuals.”

“Why is that necessary?!”

“Isn’t it obvious? To survive? Every Planet that has lived for at least five billion years goes through the same process…”

“Who… who’s behind this?!”

“I am only a Novice Administrator, sir. I cannot answer more than that…”

“Where are my parents? I’m somehow a demigod, so are they gods?”

“They should be… Your Divinity seems minimal; it appears to have been sealed long ago.”

“…Sealed?”

“Yes, I… would assume your parents were Gods from the Great Beyond, and decided to leave you here for whatever motive, sir, sealing your Divinity in the process. Perhaps for your own safety.”

“My own safety? That’s bullshit…”

“It might seem to be that way for you, but it isn’t. We are only at the beginning stages… Things might only get more chaotic as your planet is assimilated. The Apex Rulers of the other Worlds might start to invade new land. If you don’t carry the power to defend yourself, or those you care about, you will perish in this endless game for supremacy.”

“…Fucking hell.”

Will sighed as he quickly wished he could get a cold shower right now.

SPLASH!

And out of nowhere, cold water splashed over his entire body.

“Wha…?!”

He looked around, noticing a blue-colored magic circle floating above him, which slowly disappeared, rune after rune. Will was left even more confused than before.

“Excellent, master! It seems you have naturally awakened your Magic! Could this be the Element of your Divinity? Water!”

“Water? Seriously…?”

[You have awakened your Divine Power even further, learning the Skill: [Aqua Hand (Tier 1)]: Manipulate Mana and Divine Power to conjure Water Attribute Spells at will, without requiring the manipulation of Runes or Chanting. The intensity and strength of this Magic increases based on your own proficiency and the Spells you develop.]

“Hah… Hahaha…”

Will gave up. The entire situation was so ridiculous he couldn’t help but laugh. The Novice Administrator only stared at him silently, although he noticed something approaching, urging his new master to get moving.

“Master, you must first prioritize your own safety and find shelter. The Awakening is always a chaotic process after all! There are several lifeforms here, dangerous ones. I would advise you to run away.”

“I’m tired of running away…”

“Master? They’re coming!”

Will was surrounded; five goblins had reached him, carrying an assortment of different bone- and stone-made weapons. They glared at him with bloodthirsty eyes and anger after noticing the corpse of one of their own on the floor, right in front of Will.

“Ah, sorry, was he your friend? He shouldn’t have tried to stab my eye then.”

“Gryaaarrr!”

The goblins roared furiously, rushing towards Will as fast as they could. Three of them leaped over his torso, while the other two aimed to stab his ankles.

“How do I even use this— Ah.”

As he thought about it, his hand suddenly started glowing with blue and golden light. This light rapidly took the form of something long and sharp, with three pointy ends: a trident. Will quickly punched one of the goblins away, while swinging the trident like a stick, hitting the head of another goblin before it could stab his arm. Meanwhile, he kicked one of those aiming at his leg, while walking back and managing to grab the other one that crawled over his back.

“Agh!”

He felt the knife stabbing his back, but the goblin’s eyes widened this time, realizing its knife could barely scratch his skin, unable to even pierce his armor of muscles.

“Gryaaack?!”

The creature let out a shrill noise as Will grabbed it by the neck and strangled it with a powerful grip, breaking its delicate neck.

CRACK!

“Master, to your left!”

“Shit!”

Will noticed the last goblin pointing its knife at his leg, stabbing it.

“Agh, god damn it!”

With pained anger, Will raised his leg and crushed the goblin’s head, splattering it into the floor with ease.

“Haah… Ugh.”

He quickly took off the knife stuck in his back and his leg, realizing some noxious purple liquid was oozing from his bleeding wounds.

“Hey, Cube. How do I use the healing magic? Do I just will it or—”

FLASH!

And in that moment, a bright golden light covered Will’s wounds, purifying the poison and then healing the wounds rapidly.

“So it responds to my will? That’s easier than I thought… I should use Aqua Hand alongside this… Uh, trident? Maybe I wouldn’t have gotten stabbed twice…”

“Impressive! Your body is truly herculean, master. You’re definitely not a normal human; I am shocked the system was unable to detect your divinity before the integration…”

“What would have happened if it did?”

“You would have been given the task of awakening the planet instead and…”

“So a lot of annoying things, no thanks. Let’s go, Cube.”

“Wait, master! You should loot the goblins! The interior of their body has Magic Cores, which you’ll need for the growth of your Class, the creation of equipment, and the evolution of Skills.”

“Can’t I just level up?”

“No, well maybe, but it will not be enough.”

“…Fine.”

While grumpily nodding, Will used the knife of the goblins to open their chests up. The foul smell of their innards made him almost puke.

“Is this the thing you told me about?”

He was able to take something from the chest, attached to several veins and fleshy tendrils: a small blue pebble, letting out a faint aura of mana.

“Yes! These are crystallized accumulations of mana; the stronger the monster, the bigger they are.”

“Huh, where do I even store these?”

“I would suggest you use your Tutorial Points and purchase a Small Bag of Holding! That’ll help you carry up to fifty items.”

“Thanks, you’re really useful, like a tutorial guide…”

“Well, I am honored! This is my task given, so I must naturally try to exceed at it!”

[You have slain [City Goblin (Tier 1): Lv 3] x6. You earned EXP. You earned 60 Tutorial Points.]

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

[Special Class: {Demigod} has reached Level 5. Stat Points have been allocated; you gained 5 Free Stat Points.]

“So I’m level 5… I thought I would be higher.”

“Special Classes usually require much larger quantities of EXP than the Novice Classes, master.”

“Hm, noted. How do I restore Mana?”

“You can wait until it restores automatically or eat those pebbles… As a Demigod, I doubt they would kill you, unlike a normal person. Or… you could synthesize them using Alchemy Magic and create Mana Potions, but that requires a lot more work.”

“Interesting… Where should I even go now?”

Will started thinking, looking around. Using a car to get to his job wasn’t ideal, and he didn’t want to go there either way. He assumed the place would be infested with monsters.

“I should try to get back home at least… but I don’t have a family, or anything waiting for me anywhere… Unlike other people, I only have myself.”

It was ironic; his powers were perfect for him to protect his family, but he had none. If he had a sister, he could bless her; if he had a mother or a father, he could allow them to fight by his side.

But he had nobody.

“Hey, Cube.”

“Yes, master?”

“My parents… Do you know where they might be?”

“Probably in the Great Beyond, past the Dimensional Walls.”

“Could you help me find them? You’re an administrator.”

“…I think I could. If I can increase my Rank, I’ll be able to access a higher amount of data and information.”

“How do we do that then?”

“As you grow stronger, I’ll also be promoted, eventually.”

“I see, so in the end, it all boils down to growing stronger… Fine.”

Will quickly walked through the highway, past the crushed cars, making sure he was at least a bit sneaky, even though with his huge body, that was a hard thing to pull off.

“S-Someone…! Please…! Someone please help me!”

Will heard the cry of someone nearby. He looked at what seemed to be a blonde girl, crushed by her own car. She was bleeding, probably at death’s door.

Strangely enough, the monsters weren’t paying attention to her… As if they only enjoyed hunting those that were alive and moving.

In the distance, there were also other people begging for help, some of them dismembered, a few people with missing legs.

And goblins, everywhere. They were sadistic, enjoying cutting people’s limbs and stabbing them in the face and eyes, leaving them alive while they suffered a slow death.

“Master, I suggest that you don’t intervene. This highway must have become a Goblin Nest; perhaps a cave was formed somewhere and—”

“You said I have to grow stronger, so it doesn’t matter if I end up helping some people along the way, right?”

Will saw this as an opportunity. He wasn’t planning on taking care of these people or anything, but he was definitely going to crush the goblins, because they sickened him to death.

And well, he wanted to test his healing magic some more, so it could grow stronger through usage.

Will quickly sneaked around the area, walking behind the cars, ignoring the crying people for the moment, and sneaking into another large group of goblins.

“Gyeeheheh!”

They were laughing while people screamed in agony as they were being stabbed and dismembered.

“God damn it, these bastards…”

Will gritted his teeth, manifesting his trident again and aiming at them.

“Master, are you not going to…?”

Before Cube could stop him, Will fired the trident forward, with more accuracy than he imagined. The three-pointed weapon pierced through the heads of four goblins in a row, blood and innards splattering everywhere before it hit the chest of another, releasing an explosion of water everywhere.

BOOOM!

Their victims glanced at the scene without knowing what even happened; everything was too fast for most people to process.

But before they could say a word, they heard loud footsteps. A huge man, with his shirt torn off, emerged. His aura, his appearance, and his eyes all looked like someone that wasn’t really a “normal person” at all.

[You have slain [City Goblin (Tier 1): Lv 3] x5. You earned EXP. You earned 50 Tutorial Points.]

[Level Up!]

[Special Class: {Demigod} has reached Level 6. Stat Points have been allocated; you gained 1 Free Stat Point.]

“W-Who…?”

“Thank you…!”

“Please help me… please…”

The people were crying, completely devastated. Some were slowly convulsing, about to die from all the blood loss.

Will quickly help those that looked like they could make it. The salaryman that had his legs stabbed was healed first.

“Oh my god, thank you so much! Can you heal?! Is this real?!”

“Calm down, it’s real. All of this is real. Have you awakened yet?”

“N-No, I have no idea what’s going on! What do you mean awakened?!”

“You have to kill a monster, and you’ll gain power like me.”

“Really?! Ah! Please save her! She’s my sister! Vivian!”

“U-Uugh… R-Ralph?”

Will noticed a red-haired woman, around his age. Her arms were gone, and she had a knife piercing her stomach; she was slowly dying.

“I don’t know if I can help her, but I’ll try. Don’t blame me if she dies anyway, okay?”

“I-It’s fine, just try, please!”

Will’s Sacred Heal covered the woman’s body as he quickly took off the knife from her stomach. Her arms didn’t regenerate back, however, but she seemed stable.

“It’s… done. I cannot regrow her arms.”

“T-Thanks…”

Ralph hugged Vivian, who slowly opened her eyes, looking confused.

“Thank… you…”

“…”

Will didn’t know what else to say. He had always strived to help others and be useful, but never truly formed bonds with people, even though he probably had always wished to have them.

But was this really the right place to form them? Taking care of other people is taxing, and would diminish his own resources, and it could even stop him from finding his own goal of finding his parents.

People might get too dependent on him, which would also end up being very annoying.

“You’re on your own now. I did what I could. Leave this place, hide inside a building or something… Wait, Cube, you know of a safe space or something?”

“There’s one to the northeast, approximately seven hundred meters from here, inside a Mall. A Safe Zone was created. Monsters don’t enter those places; they’re made as Shelters for people.”

“Go there then.”

“Are you not coming? Please come with us!”

Ralph begged Will, but Will walked away.

“Sorry, I can’t… I have things to do.”

“Things to do…?”

“Leave him be, Ralph… He already saved us. What else do you want from him? Let’s go.”

“B-But your arms…!”

“I’m fine! I got legs, let’s walk.”

“…”

As Will saw the two walking away, his eyes squinted. The probability of them making it there was very low.

Was he helping them for nothing, an action of goodwill that will never be repaid?

Well, he never cared about being repaid for his help.

“Master, there’s some more coming… They’ve truly infested this entire place!”

“Alright.”

Noticing more goblins approaching, Will quickly used Aqua Hand. With just a thought, his right hand glowed with blue light as water started emerging, swirling around at his own will.

“Why is it so easy for me to use these Skills? Surely, it’s not the same for everyone, right?”

“It must be your innate Divinity. You’re much more acclimated to supernatural powers than normal people, master.”

“Hmm…”

As Will nodded, he avoided an incoming arrow, grabbing it with his right hand, and then imbuing it with water, making it float.

“Freeze.”

With a mere thought, the water suddenly froze into a frost arrow.

It seems he could not only manipulate the water’s form, but even its temperature.

“Hoh…”

He smiled lightly, firing the arrow at the Goblin Archer that fired the arrow at him, hitting its forehead and killing it on the spot.

At the same time, he kicked the two incoming goblins, and then rushed towards the one on his left, crushing his head with a powerful stomp.

The second, noticing how strong he was, started crawling away, trying to hide from him.

However, Will reacted faster, creating a small water bullet, concentrating the water into a single point and firing it at the goblin’s head.

“Gaack!”

With a hole in its head, the goblin dropped dead on the floor, bleeding all over…

“Hm?”

Will was unable to find any moment of respite, however, as he heard the loud steps of something enormous approaching.

Rapidly hiding behind a car, he glanced into the distance, noticing a large, monstrous goblin.

“Is that even a goblin?!”

Twice his size, with huge, muscular arms, while carrying a massive wooden club… it was no mere goblin.

“No, that is a Hobgoblin, master! A Tier 3 monster…! Be careful, it is too strong for you yet…! It luckily hasn’t noticed us. We should sneak away while it eats the other people.”

“…No. This is perfect to see how strong I am. The goblins are too weak. Don’t worry, if things get too hard, I’ll escape.”

Cube sighed, seeing his master recklessly walking into danger once more.
