Which version to watch?

I'll have to rent the movie either way, so which version do you want me to watch? Wayne's World is a close second on the poll, so I'll be watching that one soon as well :)

some of you are taking movies too seriously tbh lol ... I think many people analyze movies too much and dont really enjoy them as entertainment because they take a movie too personally lol ... I stopped watching a certain reactor because he absolutely over analyze every movie he watched by commenting about lighting, facial expressions, emotions, ect ect, and never enjoyed it as an experience of cinema, just his gf lol ... hope everyone has a good day! :)

Ill never understand cutting scenes from comedys ... with comedys anything goes even if its a bad joke, should just leave it in the movie lol ... i can understand theatrical versions with dramas or action because they slow the pace of compelling storys but not comedys :)

I haven't seen the unrated, but I have both versions, so either which way you go, I'll love it! This type of movie isn't my usual thing, but this one is HILARIOUS! So excited!

fire12wife

Might as well be the one we all saw in the cinema. You’d have to censor any “unrated” scenes anyway.

@Byrd N. Hand, I also feel that after Barbie (2023) became a HUGE hit at the box office, then all of Hollywood has this sudden desire to make more of both toy-to-film adaptations and pro-feminist chick flicks.

Alex Tan

No comment on Old School, haven’t seen that one. 🤷‍♂️

Doug

Both are widely available.

Alex Tan

Frankly, I still think "Old School" makes "Animal House" look like a Truffaut film... 🤐

Byrd N. Hand

Whichever is more widely available.

Simone's Coconut Squire

I really couldn't tell so I guessed... lol

I don't have any opinion one way or another on 40 Year Old Virgin since I haven't seen it yet, but I will say the notion that comedies were "more sophisticated" 35 years ago or more is dubious. Revenge of the Nerds (1984), Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Porky's (1981), Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) and that's just off the top of my head of examples of "raunchy, low brow" comedies from more than 30 years ago. Additionally there's plenty of recent decent comedies that aren't all about hornballs having sex (e.g. Fly Me To The Moon, Barbie, The Wild Robot, Hit Man, The Holdovers, Quiz Lady). So when I see comments about "the gold old days of comedy" I think it's mostly seeing the past through rose colored glasses, we're forgetting all the crappy movies of the past and just remembering the good parts of movies that when you watch them now don't always hold up either. 🤷‍♂️ Sure, there are plenty of great old comedies out there, but there are also plenty of mediocre or terrible old movies too, and modern movies are no different in that spectrum.

Doug

I don't have an opinion on which is better but I'd recommend when you post the video to Patreon include in the description which streaming service you watched it on, that will make it a little easier to match up to the copy you watched.

Doug

@Byrd N. Hand You said it so much better than I would have! I'll be skipping this one. 🥱

Phil Stubblefield

Im very picky with the Raunchy comedies myself. I love Steve Carell so i enjoy this movie and it has Paul Rudd so it's hard to hate this movie. other than this and the Austin Powers movies, not really much else I enjoy in the Rainchy scene

Thats MR. Baldamort

Unrated all day.

SavageDiplomat

Mine, too. While I enjoy Noah Baumbach's films (who co-wrote the script) and Greta Gerwig's previous acting work (as well as her directorial effort "Lady Bird"), the massive success of "Barbie" on all levels is to me more of an indication of how far Hollywood standards have fallen over the last 10-15 years. 😬

Byrd N. Hand

I'll politely abstain from the vote, these kind of comedies have never interested me

Pendragon1951

I love this movie 💙Yes, it's very sitcom-y, but the performances & characters really carry it, & it has a very real & sweet message. I've never seen the unrated 'virgin' so I'd love to see it, especially since that's the version available on the Wodfix app I use for watch-alongs. 💖

LaserLamb

As per this kind of poll, I wholeheartedly agree 👍🏻

LaserLamb

"Really, folks?" would also be my response to the success of Barbie (2023).

Alex Tan

Dirty humour is always more fun when unshackled 😁

arne lind

Agreed. Mainstream comedies over the last 30 years have just become too broad, lowbrow, and/or just plain stupid for my tastes. I know humor is subjective, but sometimes I can't help but think, 'Really, folks?' 🤦‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Happy Tuesday, Addie. I STRONGLY recommend the Unrated Version. I'm already getting my DVD copies of that cut in both Widescreen (1.85:1) & Full Screen (1.33:1) formats today so I'm already prepped. BTW, you should do this kind of poll more often, if you ever stumble upon two or three different versions of the same movie.

Alex Tan

Neither. Lol
