I am running for municipal political office I am on the Board of Directors of our Local Chamber of Commerce I am on the Accredited Business Advisory Board of the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota I am active in several bodies and am an officer in half of them I have a wife of 18 years and a child still at home that I spend time with watching movies, playing games, having bonfires with, going to sporting events with. The thing is, if you're a huge fan of something, you're likely going to have a strong opinion about it -- especially if you perceive that it's being mucked up by whomever is in charge of it at the current time. It's never healthy discourse to shut down any valid criticism. And this whole 'Shut up and consume' mindset that the entertainment industry seems to want people to have these days isn't conducive to getting better product in the future; it's letting them off the hook. More power to Addie for liking this and the Disney Star Wars stuff she's watched so far (I suspect her still being a novice to both Tolkien and Star Wars has helped her on that front); it's just they just could've been so much more if those making them actually had more respect for the lore and mythos that both J.R.R. Tolkien and George Lucas created for these worlds instead of simply treating it like just another gig.

I've been a Tolkien scholar for more than 30 years. I've attended college courses and sat on panel discussions as an expert. While these are visually attractive, the fact that it is nothing but glorified fan fiction is a huge turn off for me.
