Yes, yes, she has largely turned her back on the fundie upbringing, and has been on a trajectory towards this for basically the entire comic. Still, the ease and confidence that she shows by embracing a side of her that she spent her whole life denying is impressive as hell. Go get 'er, Joyce. Just minimize and deal with the casualties as best you can.
The Deliberate Myth
2025-07-21 18:34:31 +0000 UTCThey are clearly in that maddeningly euphoric phase of new love where the other person is seemingly all you can think about. I mean, you CAN think about other things, of course, but it takes effort because you are so focused on that joy you are getting. This is also why they were so oblivious to the ramifications of having this all happen in the middle of a much larger issue. When you are in that phase of new love, it is blinding and all consuming. It does not completely excuse some of the mistakes that they are making, of course, but for me at least, it does make it somewhat more understandable. For what it is worth, I don't believe they are going into this with the intent of hurting anyone. I know that doesn't change the fact that they absolutely WILL hurt someone - probably a few someones - but if anyone is up for parsing the shades of grey, there's that. All told, I see a very flawed but human response happening between them. Given the context of their age and life experience, I am inclined to view this blossoming romance as more "d'awww" than "d'oh", even while acknowledging the fallout that is coming soon.
