HERE WE GO GUYS! SORRY FOR THE WAIT!

AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER EPISODE 29 REACTION!!!

Comments

In this episode we can see that the uncle knows so much about all the different elements and their people. He said he studied the waterbenders to know how to redirect lightning. He speaks facts like you said, but how the hell did he watch Aang as a spirit riding on Rokuโ€™s dragon on episode 7? Is it because he learned all the elements like the avatar and so he can see spirits like the Avatar? It makes a person whole like he said? Thatโ€™s still unanswered!

Not sure if you've been told but each bending style is based off a real life martial art. Water is Tai Chi, Earth is Hung Gar, Fire is Northern Shaolin and Air is Baguazhang.

This is legitimately my favourite episode of the franchise. Not just because Iroh is a living legend and Zuko screaming at the storm at the end is just *peak* writing; but because of how describes the concept of philosophy in bending, which for me is easily the most interesting and unique aspects of the show. Case in point: something a lot of people miss is that even though Aang only ever air-bends when facing the Moose-Lion at the end; each time he ends up using a different strategy based on the other bending styles he's learned. > First, he makes it so that creature flies right past them. Redirecting force like that is the primary skill in Water Bending. > Next thing he does is Air Bending tactics. Trying to pull it's attention, striking from the side. This is him going back to his innate training and instinct as an Air Bender. > Finally, as Toph said, he tries the Earth Bending mindset of holding your ground and not letting the creature get past. (The only thing he didn't try is the Fire Bending mentality because he never got to that part of his training. In this case, the "Fire Bender mindset" would be to go on the offensive and drive beast back.) This is really what Iroh meant when he said that it was the combination of the elements that makes the Avatar strong. It's not just the elements themselves, even with just a single element, an Avatar should still be stronger since by having to master all elements and philosophies; it allows them to see options and strategies in combat that someone that only studies their own element wouldn't even begin to think of. (Lightning Redirection is exactly that; Fire Bending with a Water Bending mindset.) Plus; it also answers a question you had ages ago about "what if an Avatar goes evil?" Something else Iroh also pointed out is that it's not just the bending, but the entire Nations that are rooted in those philosophies. (Air Nomads focus on freedom, the Earth Kingdom strives for endurance and stability, etc.) And when you have that link to the people, where you can understand not only why they do what they do but the strengths and weaknesses that come from those mindsets, not only does it explain why it's the Avatar's role to be the connection between nations, but also why it's almost impossible for an Avatar to be evil when they have that much connection to everyone in the world. (Long post, but I really do just love the writing in this ep. Easily the highlight of the entire show for me XD)
