I was asked to give some tips on drawing hair, so I’ll try to make some timelapses of drawing different hairstyles.
Basically, whenever I start drawing hair, I no longer worry as much about precise proportions as I do when drawing the body, or parts of the face. I feel like drawing hair is where you as the artist can really just improvise, and let the pen flow freely. Obviously, it's important to be aware of things like wind (if there is any), having the hair connect back to the root in a way that makes sense, and having some amount of consistency in terms of how the hair is flowing.
I make sure not to use any perfectly straight lines when drawing hair, even for straight-haired characters, and always try to give some amount of waviness to each strand. The more strands you draw, the more detailed the hair will look, and the more strands you draw, the more you must be aware of how voluminous or thin the hair will turn out.
When I draw lots of strands, it will obviously take me much longer to make the hair look as voluminous as when I just draw huge chunks of hair.
The best way to practice hair in my opinion is to take time to practice drawing ribbons that twist and curl in random directions. This allows you to practice drawing the hair with the kind of waviness that you often see in anime art.
Anyway, I will be sure to keep recording some timelapses, and please let me know if you have any specific questions that I might be able to help with!
