Nozel's mercury magic is natural weak to fire and he was fighting the fire girl and what he said is referring that he had to overcome even stronger flames than her's ( the flames of his rival , Fuegoleon )

Licht's buddies had their own types of magic. One had Copy Magic, which is how he used Light, Portal and Dark Magic. Girl had Fire Magic. Beasty seems to have different magic too.
