Exactly, they thought making a low rent version of the Pain arc was going to save it from being bad. Boruto had no stake in that war that was between the mist and those pirates so him offering up his life to stop it was some of the worst writing I've ever seen from the series.

Sakura did much more than what the anime showed and the novel is a super long eight to ten chapters while they only made five episodes for the anime when in reality this is the arc that should have gotten ten or eleven episodes not that stupid pirate arc. Considering how poorly they treated the characters here I think it was a bad idea in retrospect to adapt this arc in the Boruto anime when it has nothing to do with Boruto's main story. This should have been a movie like Sasuke and Sakura's version of the Last.

Throughout Sasuke's entire journey Kishimoto said Sasuke and his intentions were never good or evil they were simply pure. Also Lucky you saw in the episode where the hawk came to Sasuke since he has no blood lust at all anymore; Sasuke is very flawed of course but he was never evil in the same way Itachi butchered an entire clan but his pureness and intentions are never called into question. Sakura has always seen that side of Sasuke ever since they were children which is why she never gave up on and stopped loving him; she was the only one who knew when something was wrong with Sasuke or when he didn't act like himself. She was the one who broke Sasuke out of his rage before he went in on the other sound guy and made the curse recede. She protected Sasuke from Gaara when she took the hit for him and she was the only one who picked up on the fact that Sasuke was leaving the village and tried to reach out to him while Kakashi and Naruto were the ones in denial so yes Sakura truly does know Sasuke inside and out despite what the haters might think.

After she finished talking to him she turned her back to go start looking for Zansul and that's when he stabbed her. The kunai is dipped with a special poison that shuts down chakra channels which is why once it was in her system she couldn't unleash her strength. Sasuke also got affected by this same poison earlier in the arc and even Sakura pointed out it's a foreign substance meaning it's not a poison Sasuke was taught to resist by Orochimaru. The manga adaptation also for some reason had him hug her because the chapters were releasing at the same time the arc was airing so they wanted the two to match but the novel is the true canon version. I believe one of the people working on this was interviewed as to why it was done this way and I believe they said it was to take advantage of one of Sakura's flaws in that like Naruto she's too trusting as well as caring more about others well being then her own. I believe since she didn't view Jiji as a threat at all when he hugged her she was caught off guard because up until that point Jiji had a very gentle demeanor that she most likely thought he was hugging her because he was scared or he was trying to be protective since he compared her to his fiancée during their talks; please don't confuse it with she couldn't break free of his hold because that would be no problem for her.

I really hope if they continue the trend of adapting the novels in the next season they do the one where Sakura solos a manufactured clone of Kurama~ 2 more eps to manga canon; and I can't wait for you to see the introduction of my favourite character in the series on Saturday <3
