If you needed a refresher at your watching speed; imagine watching the anime as it came out weekly; that's almost a year and a half without anything even touching upon the most important part of the lore. At least in the first half of the anime canon; you still had Otsutsuki stuff pop up consistently to remind you they were around lol.
