Both of the shows creators denied this, you can see multiple interviews online. It was intended to push a narrative and it works.

I saw a comment saying killing jimmy off in season 2 is like if they killed off chris moltisanti or jesse pinkman in season 2 and I agree. My biggest gripe with the show.

Jimmy hate is overrated I think the show misses his character, his acting was pretty good till like the last three episodes, even nucky's acting was poor in the shooting scene, blame the direction imo.

Also a few things yall misinterpreted Jimmy ending the strike ain't bad for nucky he did the strike to put pressure on Jimmy side Chalky still loyal to nucky and without the strike nucky can go back to selling liquor at a higher price and nucky hates the kkk anyways and when nucky told many he don't think their anything alike he was referring to him killing Jimmy wife he wasn't impressed by him killing women

Funny you guys caught Michael Pitt’s (Jimmy’s) bad acting. That’s actually one of the reasons he was written off the show. That and apparently he was a huge pain in the ass with his attitude on set.

I am so thankful that Jimmy is gone. Weighing down this show with his terrible acting. Looking forward to season 3!

”I died in the trench” I loved jimmys character, you could tell he really got to Nuck, no matter how much he postures. Shame he had to go so early in the show.
