The only thing we know about the real Vorenus and Pullo was that they were soldiers in an army camp in Gaul (modern France) that was under siege. Vorenus and Pullo went outside the gates and had an impromptu contest and to who was braver and could kill more Gauls. They both saved each others lives numerous times while the rest of the army watched on from the camp and cheered them. The commander of the camp relayed this anecdote to Julius Caesar after he arrived to lift the siege and Julius Caesar was so struck by it he recorded it in his memoirs of the Gallic Wars.
