Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Great movie based off a great book. Hunter S. Thompson (the author, aka "Raoul Duke" in the movie) is a real person (passed away 2005 via shooting self) as is "Dr. Gonzo" aka attorney and activist Oscar Zeta Acosta who disappeared around the 70s and we can assume at this point is probably not alive (he was Mexican but maybe he's alive and well in Samoa who knows). Johnny Depp as I understand it was friends with Thompson and copied his mannerism and hung out with him to really get it down. I think this was one of the films/books to make adrenochrome popular. At it's core it's about the energy the hippie movement had and its overall failure compared to the expectations of the people living in the moment. That "So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back" speech hits the nail. All they were left with were the drug habits and a sense of failure for people who really cared. The Vietnam War kept on going and as did most of the status quo. Drugs and nonsense, but that's probably what the author felt was all there was in the end. In any case fun movie/book to go back and watch/read every few years. Thanks for giving me the excuse.

The Usual Suspects also really showcases Del Toro’s acting, but yeah Sicario even more.

Yo, thank you guys and glad you had a fun ride! Benicio Del Toro really is a great actor and has range. Definitely see Sicario. It features another recent acquaintance of yours in a totally different type of part than you first met him in.
