i've never seen it. i think i tried but finding it, with good quality at that, was a bitch lol.

Kiana B.

The best scene imo...I think some will know what I'm talking about if I just say the words: "Ain't no shame in holding onto.."

FuzzyDunlop

Also, the conversation between him and McNulty, we get a topographical view of them in a field (for lack of a better word) shaped like a chess board, and the trees occupy the spaces, Bodie is positioned as a pawn.

FuzzyDunlop

"Real"ish characters featured in the show: Avon: Deacon Omar: Big dude from Prison that hooked him up with shank and vest. Landsman: Grey haired cop who gets random speaking lines/leads briefings. ...

FuzzyDunlop

The point of Bodie snitching is, that's what he had to do. The game IS rigged, there is NO benefit to staying loyal. He's living in fear and he might get killed even if he doesn't do anything wrong. You could say "that's the game", but you'd be wrong. The game has rules, Avon has rules, that's why he was loyal to Cutty. Stringer does not, Marlo does not. Bodie is not wrong for snitching, that's like simping for the govt or a politician.. they don't give a fck about you.

FuzzyDunlop

Honestly, if they can find it. I think The Corner would be the perfect compliment to the Wire. I would definitely love to see the reaction to that. That miniseries was super slept on. Most of the cast of The Wire is in it too.

Blood Raven

Regarding the talk about Michael looking people in the face, if you watch the very beginning of the season again when Marlo tries to give the boys money Michael is looking down the entire time and then lifts his head to look Marlo in the face and that's when Marlo I guess gets the feeling that there's something to this kid. Michael also looks down almost all the time when talking to Cutty or Presbo or most adults, people 'over' him I guess. So when Chris tells him he can look them in the face now, he's talking about anyone at all; a kind of "you're a man now" or "you got the juice now" statement

Craig Manning

I would say that I totally get why Season 5 is considered the weakest, but at the same time some of the best individual scenes of the entire series are in this season.

Craig Manning

Bodie dies just like Sean Bean in Lord of the Rings, moves toward the ultimate betrayal before dying like a true knight and retaining his honor.

Wes

The main topic of this season is education/schooling, in its many forms. Michael transitioned from the "formal" schooling (no pun intended ;-) ) in the system and the schooling in Cutty's boxing gym to the school of real hard knocks, with Professor Chris and Assistant Professor Snoop schooling him but good -- even Snoop's quote: "The boy is learning!" after the paintball course. (And of course even Carcetti is getting schooled here on how the politics really works...many other examples in the narrative as well...)

guys i just had the craziest suggestion for a show to replace the wire lmaoo, y'all know the show oz? on hbo, it came out in 97. i feel like it could be fun, in a unhinged rotted way. that show is wild and paved the way for the hbo we know today it was their first wire, sopranos type show. literally their first 1 hour original drama. a lot of people from the wire are in it too, with mad cameos throughout. if you don't react definitely check it out on your own time.

Kiana B.

I've watched it fairly recently and still think it's the weakest, but "weakest" by Wire standards is still great so...

prolifik5

I think with retrospect, many people think season 2 is up there almost an par with season 4 as the best of the series. Season 5 is my least favorite, but still good.

ABarrett1123

only 5 seasons guys

Pacman24

I love Season 5.

M Salam

bralik was right and i never rlly thought about it but bodie was dead no matter what he didn't even have to snitch. just like lil kevin which i guess was the point, they made it poetic lol. and bodie was never gonna run, that would be out of character for him imo.

Kiana B.

i feel like you can comfortably rest in the realism of the wire, the two main contributors on the show are a journalist and an ex cop/detective. and they pulled a lot from their own experiences which is reflected in plenty of the characters.

Kiana B.

Damn, didn’t even think about how Stringer did Bodie

Daniel & Mattieu FRR

Nah we caught that, I believe I mentioned it twice l. She said it’ll take like 3-4 months to even get things started

Daniel & Mattieu FRR

yeah that would be kidnapping, unfortunately randy is a ward of the state. 😭

Kiana B.

With all the talk about the new school being totally savage compared to the old I appreciate that they threw out Chris's point about Michael having worked for Body and first time best be someone he didn't know. You can tell Chris has a soft spot for Michael and is looking out for him unlike stringer who had no qualms having Body kill his boy Wallace for his first.

Geoff Thoma

Ya'll were so excited about a Disney ending you missed the adoption lady saying he couldn't take Randy lol. You can't just yoink a kid before any paperwork is done.

Tom

I agree. I think time has been kind to seasons 5. Without getting into any spoilers/details, I think about all the crazy shit that’s happened in the years since season 5 ended. When put into that perspective, I think the plot line most people have a problem with becomes easier to accept.

John Collins

i'm not sure if y'all are aware but season 5 is not well liked. imo it should have the reputation that season 2 has lmao ppl are too hard on s2. but i think in the long run it will have a similar trajectory as s2, where ppl learned to appreciate it more over time. the main focus/plotline may not be well liked but we get into some thangs next season phew.

Kiana B.

i'm realizing that omar is very polarizing for reactors that i've watched but he's so universally loved/liked by most ppl in the fandom lmao. interesting.

Kiana B.

one of the main inspos for omar is in the show, i think i said it before but his name is donnie andrews. he was in jail with with omar, one of the dudes butchie sent to help him, he was the one wearing a kufi. he was in the last episode too, both of them they got out of jail.

Kiana B.

i always start with the waterworks when bodie tell them they ain't putting him up in one of them empty ass houses. my dawg. 😭💔

Kiana B.

omfg this video is over 2 hours, oh i'm eating good. i know the discussion is about to be meaty.

Kiana B.

aw shit here we go againnn 😭

Kiana B.

Just makes it even more sad

I know this is impossible to really catch first time, but Bodie died like a pawn on the Chess board too, referencing back to Season 1 talk with D'Angelo. With Chris and Snoop playing the Bishops (coming at him diagonally), and O-Dog played the role of Knight, he came through the door, and made the turn to the corner in the shape of an L.

M Salam

And Carver flipping up the rearview mirror in the car because he can’t stand to look at himself after dropping off Randy is one of my favorite ever small details in any show

John Collins

Cutty’s path towards salvation essentially begins with his decision not to kill Fruit when he had him dead to rights. Had he gone through with it, chances are he’d be back in jail after the Barksdale crew got rounded up at the end of S3 or worse. Of course, had he gone through with it, Fruit wouldn’t have dated Lex’s girl, Lex wouldn’t have killed him, Little Kevin wouldn’t have involved Randy in Lex’s murder, Randy wouldn’t have revealed his knowledge about Lex’s murder, and Randy would probably still have a stable life with a good foster parent. Zero sum game

John Collins

The guy screaming "Attica!" while Bodie was being arrested was a reference to an Al Pacino heist movie Dog Day Afternoon (I actually learned this thru It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia before The Wire) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Bw1a_O2m48

ShaneSpear

Damn man

John Collins

The black dude wanted him to take the money for the school and kids. A few episode back he told the mayor it didn't matter if he had to eat shit for taking money from the governor. If he didn't take the money he would lose the governor race anyway because the crime rate will still go up for not having enough money to pay the police.

Pacman24

somebody on reddit made me really appreciate how well written bodie’s death was: "Throughout the show they make multiple references to the game chess and how they’re all just pieces on the board (season 1 with D teaching them) Bodie even goes so far as to acknowledge he’s a pawn in this episode. In this scene we see Marlo’s elite “pieces” coming at him. Chris in a straight line down the sidewalk, like a rook. And Snoop cutting diagonal across the cars like a bishop. Bodie steps forward and engages with them before O-dog steps out around the corner and gets him from behind, like a knight. And Bodie didn’t retreat because pawns can only ever go forward."

RH

Agreed. As much as I don't like Donnelly she was right about the fact that there is going to be a Duquan in every one of his classes and he had to learn early not to get attached. Bunny's situation is completely different, his kid is grown up and moved out, he's unlikely to run across this sequence with any other children, it was the right place and the right time and a good example of the 3% of things that actually go right on this show.

ShaneSpear

You have the money situation kinda backwards. The white guy didn't want Carcetti to take the money because it could hurt his potential run for governor in a couple years. Norman was pushing him to take it so they could at least help the kids and the schools, even if it wouldn't look great politically.

prolifik5

When y’all talked about Prez adopting Dukie in the last video being a fairytale ending uncharacteristic of The Wire, I of course thought about Namond and wondered if that was true of his arc as well. I was then reminded his adoption rode on a mass murderer (Bey) threatening a physically and emotionally abusive mother (Delonda), so far from a Disney ending. Bey is objectively not a good man; we only saw one season of him on the street and he wreaked plenty of havoc then. That said, we come to understand him and appreciate the emotional intelligence he needed to realize Namond wasn’t cut out for his life and the best thing he could do for him is let go.

John Collins

That’s crazy Bralik caught the Daniel’s & Mcnulty Call Back…that’s a good catch

Daniel Cotton

Bodie was a Soldier!!!
