Another step backwards is the non-scaling of Smite Undead and similar features where damage is now equal to a number of dice equal to your Wisdom modifier in Playtest 6 (PT6), while it was equal to your Proficiency Bonus (PB) in PT3. In PT6, A 5th-level Cleric (or Sea Druid) could deal 4d8 with Smite Undead (or 4d6 with Wraith of the Sea). It’s potentially decent damage, yet hit-or-miss since they deal zero damage on a successful save. Unfortunately, the features barely ever scale and the damage will become both negligible and unlikely as enemy bonuses to saving throws increase at higher levels (especially Con saves, but proficiency in Wisdom saves gets increasingly common too).
Smite Undead is easily fixable by instead having it apply your Divine Spark damage to all Undead creatures you target with Turn Undead. In PT6, Divine Spark is actually a reliable feature that does half damage on a successful save and adds another d8 at Cleric levels 7, 13, and 18, which is balanced but impossible to remember. A similar progression should apply to Wraith of the Sea, which is far too strong at levels 3-4 but falls off hard (mirroring Moon Druid, I guess). The most streamlined solution would be to let the number of uses for Channel Divinity and Wild Shape increase to 4 at 12th level and 5 at 18th level. Such progression would make it easy to tie the number of dice for Divine Spark (or Wraith of the Sea) to the number of Channel Divinity (or Wild Shape) uses as shown in the Channel Divinity (or Wild Shape) column of the Cleric (or Druid) table. At 1st-level, Divine Spark should just do 2d8 instead of d8+Wis.
WotC might’ve abandoned class features that scale with PB due to the backlash to Divine Spark in Playtest 3 where it was abusable as a 1-level Cleric dip gave you all of the scaling. They fixed Divine Spark by instead spelling out the class levels at which it scales. Since they insist on backwards compatibility for subclasses, I would also appreciate an Errata for Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything where they nerf the 1-level dip into Peace Domain Cleric by specifying that the number of uses and affected creatures for Emboldening Bond increases at Cleric levels 5, 9, 13, and 17 (such that it’s equal to PB for a single-class Cleric only). And rein in the temporary HP from Twilight Domain while they’re at it.

Grr. Right, I'll go there for it. Wish it were here too.
