I don't like the approach of keeping things backwards compatible in PHB2024. I'd rather have a 6th Ed or "5.5" than 5E2024. But i think 5E2024 will still be great. And i don't have to use 5E contend that was published prior 2024, so i don't mind ^^ And i think it is a ggod thing, that bardic inspiration is back to a bonus action instead of a reaction. Why? Because bards now get access to the shield spell and countercharm is a usefull reaction that combos nicely with bardic inspiration as long as the later doesn't use the bards reaction, too. The duration of one hour for bardic inspiration is really great, too. We often run out of time to use BI, but seldom forgot about it, as our bard had extra BI-dice, of whic he would place one in your "Inspiration"-field on your character sheet, when we played live. Or he marked the token, when we played online. I really like the new bard! Having to choose between the 3 spell lists at level 1 reads like a loooot of fun and versatility! :)

Like Carl, I'm in favour of backwards compatibility and for exactly the same reason. I've been playing since 2018 and I've so far managed to play a Land Druid, an Illusion Wizard and a Swarmkeeper Ranger. Most players of D&D just do not get to play more than 1-2 time a month and that means we just haven't got close to exploring all the options in 2014 PHB+XGE+TCE yet. I'm really looking forwards to playing a trickery cleric one day, a genie warlock, some sort of bard and a paladin. Yes, some version would be available in the 2024 book, but some subclasses may not. Chris - I know that you (and many others who live and breath D&D), play many times a week. Understandably, you might be getting a bit bored with a 10 year old edition. But some of us haven't had chance yet! WoTC publish far more material that I'll ever get to use. So backwards compatibility is fantastic as far as I am concerned (and still gives you ultra-players many new options). I don't think there are that many trade-offs to enable this. And BTW, I agree on reaction use of bardic inspiration. In the game I DM, I have been allowing this for a while. Much smoother way to use it.
