Detailed Analysis of the Rules Glossary

I had some feedback, including from Patrons, that they would prefer a detailed analysis of the One D&D Playtest over "first impressions". I've heard your feedback and so here's the first of my detailed analysis of the Playtest, starting with the rules Glossary.

THIS IS GOING PUBLIC TOMORROW, SO WATCH TODAY FOR AN AD-FREE VIDEO.

That is true, forgot about that. I withdraw my bad thought. :)

We already have similar mechanics (like the Sorcerer's Magical Guidance for example), so this would work the same way - if there's no pass/fail dichotomy, then you wouldn't be able to use it.

Good eye, thanks for the clarification. For OneD&D we will have to wait for an answer, but until they give us rules for it we are suppossed to use the playtest with our old books and for that my question still stands I think?

The rules for an Ability Check (on page 30 of the Expert Classes UA) say that an Ability Check has a Difficulty Class. As an Initiative Roll does not have a DC, I would rule that it is not an Ability Check. When the rules for Initiative come out, we may see it is further clarified.

Best video on the packet I've seen so far.

In regards to the new Guidance spell, you enjoyed that now it is clear when it can be used. A follow up question: What is the defenition of a "failed ability check", could rolling a lower initiative than a hostile be fit into that definition and therefore applicable to this reaction?
