Counterspell and Monsters of the Multiverse

Are monster spells being changed into spell-like actions that can't be counterspelled? I discuss whether it's even worth taking Counterspell in a post Monsters of the Multiverse D&D game.

So is this just like a testing a possible change, rather than an updated way of running monsters? Because as you noted they didn’t stick to the concept every time with the spell casting and have certainly left spell casting. From Crawford interview I gathered they’re just trying to make some monsters easier to play/run. Which ‘unoptimizes’ monsters? Now I feel like I’ve opened a concept question- can or should a DM optimize monsters? for against optimized parties? Does there need to be ‘optimization guides for running monsters’ ? Sounds like you have a book to write

That's right, no Monster Manual creatures

The comment about the Smiling Cloud Giantand the Cloud Giant in the monster manual - are M. M. monsters not changed at all? Only ones from Volos and M.’s Foamy Toes?
