2022-02-03 23:56:50 +0000 UTCCompletely side comment: Passive Investigation - One of my regular DMs has your similar opinion, ‘Investigation’ is an active word but it represents an Intelligence based skill that can be passive. ‘You are a fantasy character entering a room but during combat, so actions are taken up staying alive and ending enemies. The room has contraptions scaling the walls. Although you’ve never used these devices, you are smart enough to deduce how they might be used or the danger or opportunity they offer.’ As a DM with six players and I regularly move from one to the next, I will offer a player something to notice or a piece of knowledge based upon their Passive Observation or Passive Investigation, then move along to keep others engaged in the game. I recognize other DMs don’t use it. It’s a ‘is your PC smart enough to deduce what something is at first glance’
