How mounted combat really works

No, Jeremy Crawford does not keep changing his mind, controlled mounts really can take actions or movement on your turn.

I am sure as… h… heck.., not going to Joust with that combination!

Chris, here’s one to bend the mind over a little with - my Adventurers League unoptimized hill dwarf Rawgrim 8 wild sorcerer 2 bard received a Staff of the Python. To use it he took level in Celestial Warlock saying his patron is a coatl, 2 levels then. The Python is a Giant Constrictor Snake, Huge. What do you think? Worth mounting? And I don’t mean on the Wall! 😀

This was very useful. Thanks.

Nicely presented. Crawford's linguistic gymnastics can be frustrating. Still, he's consistent in trying only to explain RAW as he reads it, even when it may match the RAI (he being one of the writers of said rules). Keeping in mind his ultimate goal, to never invalidate RAW, makes it easier to sift through his word salads. Usually, I can see where he's trying to go. When it's not clear, I just feel free to ignore him (and anyone else.) :) It's been a very long time since I've had to worry about how another DM will rule on something like this. Sigh. There are so many fiddly bits to DnD that can become points of contention.
