Warlock Spell Analysis

OK, I think I've got the glitch taken care of.  If you notice any weird graphic glitches, let me know, but I think it's OK now.

Warlock Spell Analysis

Wow, not a warlock player yet but that is a big, big, evil wording that just begs to be use3d against the warlock by devious foes!

I have one issue with that spell, and it's a big one. It lacks the wording, "when a creature enters the area for the first time on a turn." which means that once it's up - creatures can walk through the Hunger of Hadar and as long as they don't end their turn inside - nothing happens.

Curious what your take on Hunger of Hadar is compared to Hypnotic Pattern or maybe its more direct competitors Evards Tentacles and Sickening Radiance, I love hypnotic but the flavor of Hadar always makes me want to take it instead (or instead of Sickening Radiance). Reminding the DM and other players what Hunger does is always fun wants you get to describe what sounds the void is filled with.

All of the MA spells you picked are the ones I had suggested in a comment last week. I feel like this video series has been incredibky helpful to me - I certainly understood that spells need to be evaluated for scaling, but I had not recognized that distinction about circumstantial spells for warlocks. This understanding really helps distinguish warlocks further as a different type of caster - not less in anyway - just equipped to address situations differently. I look forward to any warlock builds you may have planned for us.

I don't want to sound too critical- I did enjoy the video, and your analysis of the spells!

Oh, and in the Hold Person description, you said " you can only affect humans" instead of "you can only affect humanoids".

For level 2 spells, do you not feel Blindness/Deafness (Fiend Patron) is decent for a circumstantial spell at higher levels? It scales, it has no concentration, and gives advantage to you and your whole party (making that Eldritch Blast/Elven Accuracy combo come into play). It is a Con save, which is not ideal, and they get to retest at the end of each turn, but Warlocks can have slightly better saving throw DC's thanks to the Rod of the Pact Keeper.

sigh still type poorly, mea culpa.

Like you went outside the normal method for spell amnaysis for this class.

Good job using your expertise on spells - struck me as a little wide-ranging (which is a given) but could have made Patron spell choices more clearly mentioned on those odd numbered spell level choices. They were mentioned but could have been some sort of side highlight ‘here among Patron spell options Fiend is a stand out with access to Fireball’ or ‘Gr8 Oldie has a gr8 option to wrap their foes in Tentacles’ ...blablabla You’ve got top spell analysis - it is worth taking your time to spill it all each level

No, you have to choose an 8th level spell. Dominate Monster is better than Hold Monster anyways.

Is it possible to choose Hold Monster as a 8th slot as my 8th mystic arcanum?

Another great video! Congratz! Something that I realized as I plan my Warlock, and I’m getting to lvl9 now, and I see that same thing in your video, is that besides Synaptic Static there are not so many good 5th lvl spells to choose. In lower levels, I would always replace spells for the higher lvls ones. But now, I will probably replace a spell for a lower lvl one that scale well, like Hold Person. Hold Person is circumstancial, but in this particular occasion, it will be like a 8th lvl Hold Monster!
