And here it is, I'm going to dedicate a video to rag on the Monk.

I see you were roasted for your opinions on rededit (or however that is spelled) which unfortunately is the normal when you are honest in criticizing something. Sadly a simple disagreement politely stated in not an internet standard. Too many “Evil Conquest Paladin” people in the world obsessing on defending a fantasy character design.

That the Monk also has western roots in terms of initial inspiration is not irrelevant here. Also, although classes like "fighter", "cleric", "rogue" and "wizard" all have western inspiration, in no way are they limited to euro-centric concepts.

Reality check. In a game system where people obsess/focus on mechanics there has to be a best and a worst class (based on a variable definition admittedly,) unless every class is equally bland/“balanced” in fact. As D&D has changed over the years it has become more focused on that human search to be the “best” in competition. Removing the Monk class would return the game to the euro-centric world it came from in war gaming, debatably. Than there would be the Beast Master possibly holding the bottom rung of the best/worst ladder.

hi Chris

Yes, i think I can do that...

I’ve only had fun with my monks in 5e, but this was an enjoyable video. Mostly b/c it’s so different having you shred something rather than your usual positive spin. As expected, you’re thorough and specific in your critique. You offer or have tried rebuilds and acknowledge the difference between fun and expectations of an amazing adventurer. AND you referenced the pop culture leaders in our game CR. Nicely done. But I’ll still have fun, b/c monks are for everyone (almost).

Last time I truly enjoyed Monks was the Oriental Adventures hardcover. But that was an Asian theme world. In 5e they need to be rebuilt from ground up and dramatically improved or just not used outside of AL.

Monks existed before AD&D but not as an original class even though technically a core class.

I love this. You sound so passionate. If you have time to move the oil of olay slide to appear right as you say 'oil of olay' the comedic timing will be magnified tenfold.
