BTS (방탄소년단) '봄날 (Spring Day)' Official MV | REACTION!!

UGHH crying was not on my bingo card for this reaction!

I thought this would be a pretty tame music video to watch because I was SO certain that i had reacted to this song before but I was so wrong!! I must have heard this song in a live concert that I've watched of BTS and that's why it felt familiar because I definitely didn't know these lyrics prior to reacting to this music video and I am just in awe.

I don't know for certain what inspired this song but based on theories I read online, many point to Spring Day being inspired by the 2014 Sewol ferry disaster in South Korea.

The song is a masterpiece and sends hundreds of emotions through my brain at the same time. BTS knows how to make an impactful song and make it sound amazing as well.

Do you have any theories on what this song is in reference to/what it means? I'd love to hear your takes!

BTS (방탄소년단) '봄날 (Spring Day)' Official MV | REACTION!!

Comments

If you look at the part where they zoom out on the washing machines, it says, “don’t forget” or something along those lines. This is because a lot of the survivors said to the civilians of South Korea to never forget what happened. Also, when Jungkook is alone where the blue circle thing is (I don’t know what it’s called) the words on the top say, “you never walk alone” and there are yellow ribbons when it lights up. Yellow ribbons became used as a sign of support for the tragedy and became synonymous with skepticism for the government in SK. This is another minute detail, but the clock in the laundry room was set at the time where communication was lost and they couldn’t contact the people in the Ferry anymore. Another thing, the videos of the students got out because one of the victims dad released it. There were a lot of videos and there was 20 minutes of video footage released. He said because he wanted the world to know what really happened since the government was trying to cover up the tragedy. I think song itself wasn’t necessarily FOR the Sewol Ferry tragedy, but the MV was! Unfortunately, they had to be very lowkey with the symbolism because the government was blacklisting anyone who mentioned the Sewol Ferry Incident.

Jasmine

I literally can't bring myself to watch this mv but I can/will watch your reaction to any of the lives or the dance practice! Love this song though! Queen of the charts!

Jay18

Yes this song is so beautiful and sad. You actually got a lot of things right about the mv. I believe the lyrics are not about the tragedy but the MV is heavily theorized to be about the tragedy

Ana

The Italian Army's explanation is a must-watch imo..it was well researched, well explained, which is important for the context of why it was very brave what the boys did with this MV..

I'm sorry for your loss <3 I hope you're able to have positive memories during this holiday season. I think it's so beautiful how BTS is able to help people.

Rebecca Jewel

REALLY?! I can definitely see why, it’s ruined all other music for me 💜😭😭😭

Peachy Saiyan

thank you so much Rebecca! 💜

Spring Day is my ultimate favorite song by BTS for a lot of reasons, but primarily because it’s helped me grieve. I lost my grandmother earlier this year, and she was more like a parental figure than a distant relative. I took care of her in her final years, and her loss just about destroyed me. I plan to get a Spring Day tattoo of the tree, with bogoshipda (the Korean word for “I miss you”) underneath it and a moon in the sky. My grandmother and I always told each other we loved each other to the moon and back. This is a special song for so many people who have lost someone 💜 Even beyond its connection to the Sewol ferry tragedy.

Daphne

At the end of the day, I think it’s really up to Peachy to pick the video she feels is best for her. Whether she starts with a lighter explanation or dives into the deeper context, both approaches have value. I just hope whichever she chooses helps her appreciate the full meaning behind the MV and the tragedy it’s tied to.

Daphne

Hi Peachy! Loved your reaction to Spring Day! 💜 I wanted to recommend the Italian Army explanation video as a follow-up. It’s a heavier watch, but it’s one of the most comprehensive resources about the Sewol Ferry tragedy and its connection to the MV. While BTS couldn’t openly address the tragedy, this video helps bridge the gap, showing the courage and care that went into creating the MV as a tribute. The video also highlights the broader political and social context, making it clear why this tragedy resonated so deeply. It’s not just about understanding the MV more—it’s about honoring the lives lost and the message BTS was quietly amplifying. Here’s the link if you’re interested: https://youtu.be/FrT4a_Fw6pE?si=a_qkwfrnvrt4xiHe Thank you for your thoughtful reactions! Looking forward to your next video! 💜

I agree with Daphne and Daniela—while the Italian Army video is tough to watch, it’s incredibly important. It doesn’t just explain the MV; it gives a fuller picture of the tragedy and the context BTS was responding to. The Sewol Ferry tragedy wasn’t just a moment in history—it’s a pain still felt by many, and the video honors that by showing why BTS took the risk of addressing it, even subtly. It’s not about reliving trauma but bearing witness to something that shouldn’t be forgotten. That said, I completely understand why it’s triggering for some, and it’s valid to prioritize your own well-being. But for those who are able, watching the Italian Army video can deepen your understanding of both the MV and the larger story it’s tied to.

Rebecca Jewel

spring day, the queen you are. this song legitimately hasn’t left charts since it was release LMAO.

luna

It does not explain the MV like the other one does. I think the other one is the perfect start point into diving into something so dark and triggering. And I would love to see her reaction to the MV explanation. But if she chooses Italian army one unfortunately I can't watch because that video is too triggering for me. And it sucks because that video always gets chosen. I don't understand why people want others to relive trauma and then don't even give a heads up to the reactors. Yes it's her choice on which video to watch. She can watch both. But easing people in is always best.

Ana

This song is written by RM other than Suga's part. Of course with the help of other producers... RM began writing Spring Day while watching autumn leaves fall in a park in Seoul. Then he changed the leaves falling to snow falling. He talked about this in one of his Vlive. He was thinking about the family and friends left behind in his home town when he moved to the capital to follow his musical dreams. How he missed his friends and how he should talk more with them. Suga wrote his part thinking about his friend as he talked about it in the bts book. So this song truly is a beautiful and personal song for them. Also for anyone who miss their friends. In one word it's a MASTERPIECE.

Binu⁷

If I am correct they donated money way before releasing this song, didn't they? Wasn't that the reason this lore exists?

Kovu

I agree that the Italian Army one is a tough watch, but it does explain the MV in addition to explaining the tragedy itself and the politics around it. It packs a lot into the video. It’s up to the reactor to choose which video they react to, so hopefully Peachy picks the one she thinks is best! I just personally prefer the Italian Army one, because I think it’s important to talk about everything surrounding the Spring Day MV. And it does explain the MV too.

Daphne

Yes been waiting for the summary 😩

Ana

Sorry, that’s not quite true - they released this song like half a year after President Park was impeached, so the government was already changing. There would have been danger of a blacklist before, and many other artists were on there, but not BTS.

CC

Fun fact, we call this song the zombie queen, because it’s never left the korean charts since it was released in 2017, and rises in the charts whenever something important happens in BTS-ARMY World. For example, when they enlisted, this song was streamed so much!

CC

This is in my top 3 bts songs ever. It’s so so gorgeous! (Sadly Hobi doesn’t have lines in the official song, but whenever they do it live he takes the beginning and it’s so beautiful.) They never officially confirmed the connection, but have given strong hints in interviews and donated a lot of money to the families of those who lost their lives around the time this came out (3 years after the tragedy). I believe the song itself was written about friends who grew apart (both RM and Suga talked about that) and about missing someone in general, but it’s the music video that touches on the ferry tragedy as well as the film Snowpiercer and the book The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. Since you JUST reacted to Love Wins All, many people saw similarities in the big clothes pile, representing all those who lost their lives before. There are two explanation videos: the one by italian army goes into the politics and contains actual footage of the parents that night, which is extremely hard to watch and you might feel better watching off-camera? Up to you! I just know I can’t get through it without crying. The other explanation video goes more into the symbolism of the music video and is shorter/less deep. So you react to either or none or both, depending how you feel - I do recommend watching them off-camera at least!

CC

But the Italian army one is not a MV explanation and a very hard watch. That a lot of people don't warn the reactor. The one I linked is the best one. And actually explains the MV. And if she likes that one she'll probably go deeper and react to the Italian army one

Ana

i agree with you. i saw another explanation video some time ago, but in my oppinion the one from Italian Army is the best to understand why BTS does the video in the way they did. 💜

Daniela Knapp

For this explanation video, Italian Army did a ton of research about the accident, including traveling to South Korea to talk to the families. I think it's an important video, because although it covers more than the MV, it conveys very effectively the tragedy that BTS was responding to when they made the MV the way they did. And why it was so important to them, and why they weren't able to speak openly about why they made the MV the way they did. I know some people prefer explanation videos that don't talk about the politics of it, which is understandable! But I don't know. I like that Italian Army explains more in depth why it was important for BTS to do something.

Daphne

I shouldn't watched this video when I'm already missing BTS like crazy. After yet to come concert, this song always makes me cry.

Graphications By Saman

Agreed! Please watch the one Ana has linked, once you upload to YouTube everyone will ask you to also watch an explanation. I think it’s important to understand the hidden things in the music video which were done so beautifully. Spring day still charts in Korea to this day because of how important that song is. Also speaking of explanations, will we be getting the BU explanation anytime soon? 💜

Tammila

this is my favorite BTS song. i heard it for the first time a few months ago and i've been obsessed every since. its such a beautiful and emotional song and the music video makes it hit even harder knowing the meaning of it. :( i echo everyone that says you should watch the explanation video.

terri lynn

Please watch the explanation video this video is the best video explanation for the mv. The Italian army one is not about BTS or the MV but more about the politics of it https://youtu.be/Tye1ONFeKis?si=-aUhJ8-n7REb89dC I'd rather see an actual explanation about the MV and not super triggering content that doesn't involve BTS

Ana

Ah! I haven't gotten there in my backlog yet!! But I saw this notification and couldn't resist looking at the caption 🤭🤭🤭

Breanne

Yoongi told one time that he wrote it while thinking about his friend he also wrote "Dear friend" about. The MV was inspired by the Sewol Ferry accident and makes different reference towards it. It is really a tragedy. I am so happy they prod awareness about it by the MV. There is also this lore about them being getting on a "black list" from the government for bringing awareness about it and supporting the relatives of the indecent. The donated money towards them.

Kovu

she also heard it in the tiny desk concert

terri lynn

You heard this song in both the PTD LA concert and Busan YTC concert! That's why it's familiar. Remember they were all in a train at the end of the Busan concert?

Breanne

Yay!!! Love this song so much! I HIGHLY recommend that you follow up with an explanation video. This one is usually the one people recommend. https://youtu.be/FrT4a_Fw6pE?si=a_qkwfrnvrt4xiHe It’s been confirmed that the music video itself was about the tragedy, but the song was just about lost friendships. When you post on YouTube, you’ll be flooded with comments telling you to react to the explanation video as well, so I highly recommend! I think it’s important to remember the lives that were lost.
