Vellum Overlay 7: The Reveal

Here is the seventh illustration in the series of vellum overlays for Yearning For Her from chapter 10. This is when Kian drops his glamour and reveals what he truly is. I loved the shocked expression Fremuard gave Willow.

Scene Snippet:

Willow gasped, eyes flaring. Her heart skipped a beat, a chill spread over her skin, and everything around her went quiet.

Not real.

What she was seeing couldn’t be real. It wasn’t possible.

Kian stood before her, but it was a different version of him. An inhuman version.

His skin had paled to a light, cool gray, and his features had sharpened, making the curl of his full, sensual lips even more alluring—even more wicked. Two pairs of horns rose from near his temples, with the inner set longer than the others. All four tapered into fine points, as did his ears, which had become long and elfin.

But it was his eyes that held her spellbound. Their enticing blue was even more pronounced, more ethereal, and had spread to encompass his eyes fully. His irises were mere suggestions, where the color lightened just enough to be noticeable. No white sclerae, no black pupils. Just that piercing blue, which glittered with opalescent flecks and emitted its own glow.

He was breathtakingly beautiful.

And his scent. Oh God, his scent. Sandalwood, jasmine, and a spicy musk that was the embodiment of lust. It was stronger than before, and it enveloped her, invaded her senses, dragged her deeper under his spell.

“What are you?” she breathed.

“Fae,” he replied. Even his voice was different—deeper, more layered, impossibly sultrier. “I’m an incubus.”

An incubus? A freaking sex demon? No, this couldn’t be happening. She had to be dreaming, had to be hallucinating.

Willow covered her eyes with her hands. “This is crazy.” She parted her fingers to peek at Kian. “No, no, no. You still look like that.”

“You’re not seeing things, Violet. This is real.” His fingers, tipped not with long, painted nails but black claws, brushed her hands aside, caught her chin, and tilted her face up toward his. “This is me.”

“Are you going to kill me?” she asked in a quiet voice, her heart racing. “Suck my soul out through my—” Willow’s cheeks blazed, and she tried to squeeze her thighs together, but they were blocked by his knee.

“I’m a fae, Willow, not a fucking demon,” he said.

“But you said you’re an incubus. Isn’t that a…a fucking demon?”
