The Rock (runtime 2:16:37) - Patreon Version

Helloooo! It's finally time for that 90's action movie you all voted for!
That's right, we picked The Rock... it's been recommended so many times now, AND it has Sean Connery who we've grown to absolutely love, so it only made sense. This movie was an absolute BLAST to watch. I'm thinking I need to see more with Nicholas Cage too, he was awesome. Overall, 4 thumbs up. We both loved this movie!

Since you like Sean Connery, he's quite good in the film The Untouchables-1987. He stars with Kevin Costner in this Thriller/Crime film.

Oh wow, this list is getting me so hyped! Hahaha

Chandra

Amazing, thank you for all of these!!

Oh, in the section on my last comment where I made movie recommendations, I forgot to add another one. This is going to sound like a weird one, since it's animated and not really an action film, but for Nicholas Cage: -The Croods He does some fantastic voice acting in that (and so does everyone else in that movie), and at times, it does sort of feel a bit like an action flick. Oh, ha, and come to think of it, it does even manage to throw in a few neat explosions!

Great reaction to a super fun movie. As far as other Micheal Bay movies, I second recommendations for: -Armageddon -Transformers The Transformer movies are garbage, but they're fun garbage. Except the first one, which I love, and I know you guys will too. That one's fantastic. More action movies I'd highly recommend which aren't from Micheal Bay would be: -Air Force One (Harrison Ford) -The Bourne Identity (Matt Damon; you had that on a poll) -John Wick (Keanu Reeves) -Nobody (Bob Odenkirk from Breaking Bad; very John Wick-esque) -Speed (Keanu Reeves; this is the movie that turned him into an action star. Without Speed, we would not have John Wick)

Okay Michael Bay Must Sees: Bad Boys 1&2 - You can see where he starts and his return to the franchise after 10 years and nearly SEVEN TIMES the budget. Armageddon - His giant bombastic sci-fi film after The Rock. Disney gives him 140mil, one of the most stacked casts in history and rocks the summer for weeks on end. This is also in the criterion collection for a reason. Pain & Gain - An absolutely bonkers attempt at the bro version of a Coen brothers dark comedy. A super stripped down budget, and a reliance on dark DARK comedy make this stand out amongst his big explosion filled summer blockbusters. 13 Hours - His most restrained action film based on the true story of the attack o US Troops, spies and diplomats in Benghazi. Maybe his best film. Ambulance - some one showed Michael Bay what you can do with a drone now… and he USES IT. Pearl Harbor was his first attempt at oscar bait, trying to make his own Titanic…. it does NOT WORK. BUT… it’s kind of a technical masterpiece. THE TRANSFORMERS FRANCHISE - Look… these are NOT GOOD. But each film is bigger and more insane than the last. These are PEAK Michael Bay. He destroys entire cities in the most impressive special effects powerhouses ever put to film. He fucks the earth up so bad that they had to just reboot the series at the finale rather than continue because the body count was tooooooooo high. I'm talking MILLIONS dead. Wild shit for a series based on a kids toy.

If you mean the tv show, we've actually seen the first season! We're both super excited for the second one 😀

Chandra

I can totally see that... I would have rented it all the time too!

Chandra

Haha glad you had fun with it too!!

Chandra

This is so great, thank you!!

Chandra

Oooo I like the sound of more underwater combat. And yes, we'd definitely start at the beginning with Bond!

Chandra

That's a great idea! I'll keep that in mind for a future poll.

Chandra

Loved the reaction! I was in my mid-teens when this came out and it quickly became one of the top movies I would rent at the local movie rental store until I got it on VHS lmao.

John

I hadn't seen this in a very long time. OH MY GOD! This movie is so over the top even by Michael Bay standards. The GIANT explosions, music being sooo loud, the ever present orange or blue lighting, really unnecessary dutch angles, and cheesy ass dialogue. Simply Amazing! Thanks!

I'm gonna pump Severance's tires. C'mon now. It's the thing. Severance.

You asked, I provide... Michael Bay movie recommendations: Bad Boys (1995) – Two Miami detectives take on a drug cartel with fast cars and even faster banter. Armageddon (1998) – Oil drillers are sent to space to stop an asteroid from destroying Earth. Pearl Harbor (2001) – A love triangle unfolds against the backdrop of the infamous WWII attack. Bad Boys II (2003) – Explosions, drug lords, and car chases ramp up in this over-the-top buddy cop sequel. Transformers (2007) – Alien robots battle on Earth while disguising themselves as vehicles. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) – The Autobots face a resurrected Decepticon threat alongside a confused college kid. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) – A secret moon mission reveals a Cybertronian plot to enslave humanity. Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) – New heroes and robot dinosaurs join the fight against alien oppression. Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) – Arthurian legend collides with alien warfare in this wild franchise installment.

I'm still watching the reaction, but you were asking about underwater combat... you're in luck, you can stay on the Sean Connery bandwagon and check out "Thunderball", the fourth Connery James Bond movie. You'll get a pretty detailed covering of the topic. Of course, keep in mind that you are not legally allowed to just jump into the middle of Bond... you'd have to start at the beginning. 😁

Ohh... there are so many places to go when you start down the path that leads to Nicolas Cage. If you put up a poll at some point, please make it one of those that allows multiple choice so that instead of just getting a winner, you get a nice distribution of the popularity of a number of his movies, because once you get "the bug", you really will just want to have a list and start working through them.
