Spy Movie Poll

Hello everyone!
We've got a Spy movie poll for you today ▄︻デ══━一💥

Last week's poll winner was RoboCop! Lots of your comments talked about how all of the movies on that poll are good though, so we'll keep that in mind for future polls :)

As for this week, we're in the mood for something exciting, so spy movies it is! We've got some newer, some older and a little in between. Can't wait to see what you want to watch with us!

Comments

Maplenuts, give "Spy" with Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Rose Byrne & Jason Statham a go! And prepare to laugh your tails off during a really awesome spy movie. https://youtu.be/YrY3v1eDmQY?si=Pj_uCsHacFdIHu94

I am soooo over Jason Bourne. That first movie is fine, but I think Paul Greengrass is a bad director and his cinematographer is terrible.

These are all great movies but there's one that's frequently overlooked: Spy Game from 2001 with Brad Pitt, Robert Redford, and Catherine McCormack. It's a bit less "action" but just as thrilling, and probably closer to what spying might actually look like in the real world. And since you've jumped into the Tom Clancy/Jack Ryan universe, the recommended viewing order would be: (The Hunt for Red October) -> Patriot Games -> Clear and Present Danger -> Sum of All Fears. The movies are disconnected from each other (more or less, two have Harrison Ford starring as Jack Ryan) but they do track with the character from the books (sort of). All solid "spy" movies that you'll probably enjoy (I'm assuming you enjoyed Hunt.. watching that reaction next ;) ). The 2014 movie I remember being terrible and not worthy of carrying the Jack Ryan name but the 2018 series from Amazon is definitely worth the watch (it also "reboots" the character but it has original stories that aren't taken from the books (that I know of, I haven't read all of Clancy).

They have bearing. But the trilogy was a completed story, made to stand alone.

They actually do connect, and do have bearing on the original three, though I agree the original three are the superior ones

Okay, "alleged" final film

"final" film, I'll believe it in 20-30 years since they always make another franchise movie when they do well :)

I'm very happy to see Bourne winning this, it's got very intelligent writing for an action film thanks to being based on a good book

The first Kingsmen is an amazing reaction movie. But Bourne is also great

I voted for Bourne Identity. Keep in mind it’s the first of a trilogy of movies - Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, and Bourne Ultimatum. Years later they added more films, but they are separate, and don’t compare to the original three.

I haven't seen Kingsman yet, but I chose Bourne because it's absolutely my favorite of this genre, and you guys would love it. Matt Damon is incredible in it. He plays all different sorts of characters in his movies, but in those? He doesn't just play Bourne. He IS Bourne.

Well I did Bourne because it is something I think you will enjoy a lot. One of the best spy genres there is by far. Mostly because of Matt Damon. Mission Impossible is equally great but I am conflicted because I think it would be worth sampling a few of the original TV series episodes. Just to see where it all started. Dr. No is the start of what is arguable even more of a classic. Starting off the James Bond movie line that became the quintessential British Spy mold. With Sean Connery in the lead (although others took over such as Roger Moore, who also played another spy classic role, that of 'The Saint' where he played the lead of Simon Templar). Later on the show also sparked the imagination of many with what became almost a general theme in many Spy movie lines, the use of Spy gadgets. I will admit I have truly fond memories of the James Bond movies since I used to go watch them with my mother in cinemas as a boy on Wednesdays when my father would settle behind the family TV for Football (well you call it Soccer). And then lastly ... Kingsman. A very very very welcome revival of the classic spy genre with a truely fresh touch. Watch them all and make the comparison.

Oh so excited for these! I’m also struggling between Mission and Bourne lol

Alex Ocean

Omg I would love for you guys to do the Mission series AND the Bourne series... but which do I vote for? Tough choice but gotta go with Mission since the final film comes out in May
