Com-POLL-mise!

Hi Everyone!
Last week's poll asked whether we should move straight into Better Call Saul, or take a break and watch something else first. 'Take a Break' won with 60% of the votes, and its worth mentioning that this poll had one of the highest turnouts for any poll yet, so thanks for voting!

The votes don't tell the whole story though, because we got an absolute boatload of passionate responses in the comments (in favor of both options). Typically for a poll we crown the option with the most votes the winner, and that's that.

The response to this poll was not typical though, and so the result won't be typical either! That's why I'm happy to announce: Last week's poll winner was... all of the above!

Everyone was just so passionate and heartfelt with their responses we didn't want to disappoint any of y'all, so we've come up with a two-part compromise. The first part is that we'll finish Breaking Bad, take a 1 week breather to sit with it, then watch El Camino, then maybe take another 1 week breather, and jump into Better Call Saul. This means that we're aiming to start Better Call Saul within a month of Breaking Bad.

If you voted for watching something else then don't despair! We're also going to start another series in the same timeframe, so you can get some variety in case BCS isn't your thing!

With that in mind we ask: Which of these shows should we start next? We narrowed it to a few options which are all pretty different from what we're currently watching.

Twin Peaks is fun, mysterious, crazy, and will expand your minds to incredible cinema.

You should watch the Pacific it is a follow on from Band of Brothers

Even though it influenced almost all TV that's come since, there's really never been anything quite like Twin Peaks. It's equal parts weird and delightful, and I think you'd truly enjoy it. I'm also seconding the opinion I've seen here: I really hope y'all get around to Buffy before too long.

Dylan Platt

People keep saying this but I am yet to see a reaction channel that didn't really enjoy the show. But it's not surprising considering it's as good if not better than BB. The only difference is it's requires a bit of maturity.

Andrew Ramos

You guys would love The Magicians. Think Harry Potter + in college + Narnia but in a semi spoof very dark humor format.

Matthew Langley

I get why someone would have this opinion, but I feel the opposite. There is more depth to unpack than in BB in both per episode and the show in general so I am really looking forward to the discussions and conversations for Better Call Saul. I could talk about it forever. The reaction part of reaction videos is just the tip of the ice berg for me. But I could also rewatch it til I die, so perhaps we just feel differently about the show to begin with. :P

Westworld was great!Definitely the one that makes you think the most, the rest are good but not as outside the box.

BCS is good but sooooooo awful for a reaction format. I watched it once and although it was great, it’s the type of show where I have zero interest in rewatching. It’s worth watching… on your own lol. Just wish you wouldn’t spend your editing time and money on it. But respect the decision. Thanks guys!

TallTyrionLannister

Dude YES. John Adams is amazing and far too few reactors do it. Paul Giamatti is brilliant. Episode 2 is one of my favorite episodes in any series ever. If you like American history, it’s truly a masterpiece

TallTyrionLannister

IMO, as excellent as the Westworld series was, I think if you've not seen the movie, that would be a better start. I think the movie is a better introduction to the premise and then the series says "OK now let's take this premise and frickin RUN"

mikethemotormouth

True Detective season 1 is great and it's a self contained story with a beginning, middle and end. I wouldn't go past season 1 as the other seasons range from mid to bad.

Matthew D Newman

Good compromise folks :)

Max Hassam

I lived 10 years in Baltimore so... The Wire.

Alexis

Westworld's 1st season was excellent. The next two are very meh. Better Call Saul may be the most consistent as a series. Recommendation: I don't know why reactors don't do the HBO mini series John Adams. Exceptional cast. Stephen Dillane, Stanis Baratheon, plays Thomas Jefferson and that performance is amazing and is a great companion with his Game of Thrones role. He also creates the Iron Swivel chair to rule the United States.

Rob

I always vote for what I think reactors will enjoy the most (which always makes for a more fun reaction). That's why jumping right to Better Call Saul was an easy choice. I love True Detective, but I think you guys would enjoy Twin Peaks more.

N.T. Stars

100% this. Same writer as Firefly, and there is a huge cult of Buffy Patreon viewers. They tend to start joining en masse around Season 3.

Dipper

Buffy the Vampire Slayer would be awesome someday

Stephen Knueppel

The last Poll, Better Call Saul Lost......but they just said they are doing it anyways. They will finish BB, Then after a week watch El Camino ,then after a week start BCS. Hope this helped.

Tommy

God bless you all lol ❤️

lemmy

Great compromise

So if I want to go to BetterCall Saul, how do I vote?

Bill B.

I don't know if I missed it elsewhere, but if you're still taking suggestions on shows, I HIGHLY recommend "Justified" with Timothy Olyphant. It's an enthralling show that's one of my other top favorites right under Breaking Bad. The characters are dynamic and compelling, the plot moves along quickly but with well fleshed-out and nuanced characters who evolve, and who always have interesting motives despite their redneck associates. Basic premise: a federal marshall (Olyphant) gets into trouble and his punishment is to get re-assigned to his backwater hometown that he had (for his own sanity) desperately escaped from years prior. He's a crack shot but he has to test his wits against competing clans that run the gamut between really dumb and really smart (but leaning into their redneck stereotypes to play dumb). Someone is always scheming, and the results range from hilarious to dramatically unsettling. I beg you to give it ONE episode, just the pilot, and see what you want to do from there, whether it's put it up for a vote, go with it, or watch it on your own time. P.S. I agree with the other sentiments: I've always heard good things about the Wire but the first season didn't grab me and maybe it's just too slow of a burn for me (which says a lot because I love BCS). Westworld started great but fell off quickly. True Detective was interesting and well done, but most people agree it's only got one good season. I've never watched Twin Peaks but I've heard good things; still, I also heard it was left unfinished, like Firefly, and it sounds like its bizarre nature means that the unresolved ending is less satisfying then Firefly's. So make of all that what you will.

Dan

Shows to me are a double edged sword. Great if you like a show, but if you don't it can be many months before something potentially pops up.

Saraliese

Ted Lasso? lol maybe in the future

Alex Ocean

True Detective is the correct answer.

Paul De'Armond

Process of elimination for me on this one. Don't like Twin Peaks, never got the big thing with The Wire (just not my cup of tea), Westworld started strong but quickly fell off the rails, so the leaves True Detective which I've never seen, so watching it for the first time same as the reactions might be fun.

Kenton Kruger

Twin Peaks is never gonna win… Bummer…

djKENTO

True Detective!!!! Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey are amazing together

Guy-on-Couch

I voted True Detective Season 1, but these all have potential.

GhostCat

Easiest vote for Twin Peaks of my life. Just imagine these two trying to make sense of Lynch on television -- every episode, each season, each movie, or interlude somewhere between it all. You will be able to hear the cogs turning in real time if you turn your volume knob up high enough. Something to think about.

tkitez (take it easy)

True Detective is a masterpiece. All 4 seasons are worth watching but the first is a whole other level
