Hi Everyone! We hope you had a lovely weekend ❤️
This week we watched our first ever war movie. We both really appreciated the talent and skill that went into making this film. It's definitely one of those movies that sits with you forever. We're really grateful you all voted for us to watch it, and are excited to see more like it.
Awww thank you ❤️❤️❤️

I see a lot of good war movie recs in these comments already, but I'll add one that was a favorite of mine and which I haven't seen mentioned yet: "Platoon."
It's written and directed by Oliver Stone and is based on his experiences serving in the Vietnam war. Idk which actors you know and recognize by this point in your movie-reaction journey, but I'll just add that it stars Tom Berenger, Willem Defoe, and Charlie Sheen, along with a supporting cast of people you'll probably recognize (including Forrest Whittaker and a *very* young Johnny Depp). It was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won four: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound, and Best Film Editing.
"Platoon" also opens the door to another Oscar-winning Oliver Stone film about Vietnam and the aftermath, "Born On The Fourth Of July" starring Tom Cruise (a movie which garnered Cruise his first ever Oscar nomination).

Also, did I hear you just watched Raiders??? I hope you are planning on posting your Indiana Jones reactions... 😃
Speaking of which, building up a Spielberg collection would be great: Jaws, Poltergeist, E.T. , Goonies, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Back to the Future, Catch Me If You Can, Minority Report, Munich, Lincoln, Ready Player One... Add the Indiana Jones Trilogy and even the original Star Wars Trilogy if you wish, and you might begin to get a sense for one of the most influential film makers of all time...

War film recommendations, if you mean WWII: Patton (1970), The Longest Day (1962), Thin Red Line, and maybe Fury for a more modern/palatable take on the era. Note on Fury: it's not the most historically accurate thing in the world but it's executed pretty well.
If anything is on the table, then for the Vietnam War: Hamburger Hill (1987), Jacob's Ladder (1990), and The Deer Hunter. This assumes you've seen the trifecta for Vietnam (Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now, and Platoon).
Some more modern stuff: Black Hawk Down, Jarhead, Three Kings. And if you're open to a short series, can't recommend Generation Kill enough.

The reason they feel so similar to each other - the gory realism, the shaky handheld camera action scenes that put you in the middle of the fight, the score - is that after making this movie, both Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks wanted to do another WWII project together, so they created and executive produced Band of Brothers.

Since you guys have limited knowledge of WW2 there are two videos on YouTube I strongly recommend you watch. The first is The Fallen of WW2 by Niel Halloran. It's an excellent look at the human cost of the War. The other is WW2 Oversimplified. An animated but very informative history of the War. It would be great if you could react to them but you should watch them regardless so you have a better understanding of the War and how enormous it was.

The Thin Red Line is an amazing war movie that came out the same year as Saving Private Ryan.I really hope you will watch it, it is very cinematic with amazing shots and a very deep message throughout.

The deeper message of this movie was that "Earn It" was a message for everyone not just for Private Ryan. We should all be aware of what all these men sacrificed during WWII to make the world a better place. Also when this movie first came out and veterans from D-Day who landed on D-Day said that the landing scene was so realistic that the only thing missing was the smell.

There are an insane number of movies and shows set during WW2. Any time you'd like a list, I'm happy to provide it!

There are awesome movies about WW2 and other wars out there, including some light hearted action comedies that are really fun. Do you want suggestions in the comments or some other method.

This movie is such a somber reminder of what the prior generation had to go through and sacrifice. I've read that many veterans of WW II broke down in tears due to how accurate this film portrayed the war. It's crazy to think that right after the Great Depression, the US had to contend with this war. Unbelievable times.
Some other war related films to watch.
- The Patriot
- Last of the Mohicans
- Hacksaw Ridge
- Braveheart
- American Sniper
- Glory

My favorite WWII movie is "Go For Broke". To me it's the most inspiring story of the war. It's the story of the 442nd, the most decorated unit in Army history, which was composed almost entirely of Japanese volunteers who's families were often held in internment camps in the US while they fought to keep their country "free".
