I've never read any of H.P. Lovecraft's work, but I know it's super well known so I've always wanted to!!

"The Walking Dead" is really great. That show and "Game of Thrones" raised my bar for television because they introduced actual stakes and the feeling that no character was ever fully safe. In most shows at that time, the heroes would get in trouble and it's meant to be tense but you KNOW they'll get out of it BECAUSE they're the heroes. There's never a question of whether they'll get out of the situation and live to be in the next episode. With TWD and GoT, though, they threw all that out the window and suddenly those tense situations were legit tense because there was never a guarantee that any given main character would make it through the episode. I actually stopped watching a couple of shows I was into at the time bc the false "suspense" of shows where the protagonists always escape "dangerous" situations got boring when compared to TWD and GoT. So, yeah, I def recommend TWD.

"The Mist" is one of those movies that, although the ending is brutal af, it's exactly what elevates it to classic status. Without that ending, it would've been a decent creature-feature/popcorn movie that I probably would've forgotten before too long. With that ending, it became unforgettable and earned a spot in the pantheon of great horror movies. AND tragedies, bc... WOW. Also, Stephen King was very much influenced by H.P. Lovecraft (you see elements of Lovecraft in many of his stories, but especially these early ones) and that def comes through in this. The creatures in this movie (in fact, the whole situation) very much have that Lovecraftian "cosmic horror" vibe, and the end couldn't be more Lovecraft. The only element that would have made it more so would have been for Thomas Jane's character to finish his agonized scream of grief and loss by suddenly breaking into laughter as he goes completely insane. Btw, I'm very excited for y'all to watch "Tremors." It's a fun one. And, like "The Mist," has a little bit of a throwback, B-movie vibe, like a modern take on the sort of movie they would've made for drive-ins in the 1950s. I think you'll have a good time with it.

I also love the fact that he's working on paintings for movie posters that all have a certain look/composition to them, and then we get the shot of him and his family in front of the window, looking out at the storm coming, and the shot is composed just like one of his movie posters. It's a neat little moment of foreshadowing that he's about to become the main character in a horror movie (as well as serving as a cool "cover shot" of the story we're about to watch).

We haven't! We've heard it's really good though.

Chandra

Oooh neat! Yeah, I've never heard of that one.

Everyone catches The Thing artwork, but the painting he's working on is from The Dark Tower, another Stephen King book

Since they released it, the B&W version is the only one I watch.

You've seen ""Stand By Me". Other King story adaptations I recommend, not necessarily in the order of quality : "Misery", "The Shawshank Redemption", "The Green Mile", "The Shining", "Christine", "Cujo", "Pet Sematary", "It" (preferably the modern remakes, not the old TV mini-series (save that to watch after watching the movies to avoid spoilers)), "Carrie", "The Dead Zone" (movie, not the series (though the series is OK, too)) ... seriously, though, there are like 80+ movie or TV adaptations of his works.

I think this is the first time I've seen a reactor acknowledge "Well, he did promise his son to not let the monsters get him." And definitely the first time I've seen a reactor NOT say "Wow, half the cast is from 'The Walking Dead'!" Have y'all not watched that yet?

Thomas Yanez

Love a movie with a cheerful ending.

Paul De'Armond

been looking for a reason to rewatch with the newly released 4K blu-ray. Maybe I'll watch it in black and white this time. Makes it feel like a 1950s or 60s monster movie.

Great reaction guys as usual. The Green Mile is a great movie from a Stephen King novel, just make sure you have a lot of tissues.

Excellent choice! I had a relative leave a cassette tape at my house in the early 2000s so my Mother and I decided to check it out. Turns out it was full cast audio dramatization of The Mist with what they called "Binaural sound" which gave a surround sound effect when using headphones. There was also background music and sound effects! I've listened to that so much over the years that when this film was announced we were excited. The ending truly did surprise people since the endings in both the audio drama and novella are completely different.

Reaction to the twist was more tempered than I was expecting, that's for sure. I'm not really a King reader or adaptation guy so I won't hit ya with a recommendation, but I will say that you should avoid The Langoliers at all costs else you will potentially end up with the same distaste for the man as me. A truly awful execution on film and I even hated the book of short stories that preceded it. Really looking forward to Tremors, though.

Frank Darabont is an amazing director. The Shawshank redemption, Green Mile and The Mist. What a line up! 🥹🤌🏻 Cannot wait to see what he does with Stranger Things final season. Hes directing two episodes.

Petteri Ahlberg

I, on the other hand, am just going to skip right to the end and watch the twist reaction. Call the cops.

This was an unexpected upload. I cannot wait to watch along with this!
