All the truly cool people were outcasts in school, I think haha. Even now in 2024 I can totally relate to the characters, which just speaks to how well written they are! And I love your trivia, especially the one about the library scene being ad-libbed. Clearly very talented actors ❤️

I was in High School in the mid 90s but I still felt a connection to Allison and Brian in school. I was quite the outcast and was in the Debate and Drama clubs. Wasn't the smartest though lol The episode you were thinking of in Futurama is called "The Luck of the Fryrish" and is one of my favorites for that reference alone.
Some fun trivia: The scene in which all characters sit in a circle on the floor in the library and tell stories about why they were in detention was not scripted. Writer and director John Hughes told them all to ad-lib.
"Neo-Maxi Zoon dweebie" was ad-libbed by Judd Nelson (Bender) as well as him raising his fist at the end.
John Hughes said that before filming began, the cast rehearsed the entire movie a few times as if it were a play. After the film became a hit, Hughes was asked to write the script as a play, so high schoolers could perform it.
It was Ally Sheedy (Allison)'s idea to put Cap'n'Crunch cereal in the sandwich to give it an extra crunch sound.

You asked for some 80s movie recommendations. I could make you a list, but if I had to pick one 80s movie to elevate my movie recommendation status with you, it would be... War Games. BTW I'm also Canadian if that holds any weight :p
