By this point, I know you've watched the whole season so you know that the dog is indeed Dogmeat. But to answer the question of past You, they did actually call the dog by name in episode 2. The number stamped on the dog was CX404, but Wilzig called her "Four" when he was walking away from Lucy's campfire at their first meeting. So, Wilzig named her Four, but Coop ends up calling her Dogmeat later.

The song you hear when Lucy shows up at the start of this episode is called "Maybe" by the Ink Spots and is the first thing you hear when Fallout 1 starts. There is also Radio stations starting in Fallout 3 you can listen to through your Pip Boy so taking down things like Gulpers while music plays is "normal" lol The bag Thaddeus carries is a reference to the games where you overload your companions :)
