Hi John! I'm so stoked you've joined us here! That's so cool you know all these sites from living in LA. I didn't realize they were real, especially the giant donut place haha

Idk if y'all ever see comments from what, for you, is so long ago (I just joined, so these watch-alongs are new for me), but I thought I'd mention that: (1) You're not wrong about the western vibe. New Vegas, in particular, had a western feel to it and the show plays off of that any time the Ghoul is onscreen. (2) The actual genre of Fallout is a sub-genre of retro-futurism called "atompunk," which is basically what you described in the first episode: An alternate universe where the optimistic, atom-powered future that people in the 1950s imagined "the year 2000 and beyond!" would look like actually became true. Fallout started with that atompunk idea but then said, "Yeah, but what if that shiny, happy atompunk world collapsed into an apocalypse?" It's the mix of those two genres that gives the Fallout universe its unique flavor. Oh yeah, and that *was* an airport at the end. That's LAX. I grew up in and around LA, so I'm very familiar with that big structure (known as the "The Theme Building"). The original design for the airport featured a big glass dome (not exactly great for earthquake country), but that design ended up being scaled way down. The Theme Building was designed as an homage to that original plan and marks the spot where the dome was going to be. On a side note: I think the Space Age design of LAX's Theme Building (a Mid-century modern style known as "Googie" that was influenced by "Populuxe" architecture) fits really nicely with the atompunk/retro-future vibe of the show. In fact, there are a number of locations familiar to LA residents that pop up in the show. E.g. When Lucy exited the vault, she was in Santa Monica near the pier. In this second episode, you see that building with the big donut on top; that's Randy's Donuts, an LA landmark. In an upcoming episode (not a spoiler, since I know you've already watched the whole season), you see Santa Monica Blvd (though it's flooded in the show). I know more spots pop up throughout the season but I haven't watched the show since it came out 6-ish months ago, so I don't remember them off the top of my head.

I had no idea they pulled so much from the game! These details are really fun!

I binge watched this last weekend to see what story they were telling and it's great! I watched a few edited reactions on YouTube but this is my first Full Length watchalong for it. There are so many Easter Eggs in each episode which really makes this show fun! Some from this episode: When you first see Lucy she is walking around she decides to check out a house. This is just like in the games where you are exploring and go into a random ruined house to look for items. Later on when she is talking to that man getting directions to Filly could be considered a "Random Encounter." He even walks like an NPC lol The animal Maximus and Titus come across is called a "Yao Guai" which is a mutated Black Bear. It looks pretty close to the ones in the game and are very tough. You got it correct about Filly! I was very impressed with how they introduced the place. The man Lucy comes across outside of Filly was selling something that is actually called "Iguana on a Stick" in the games. People there despise Vault Dwellers but in the settlement of "Megaton" in Fallout 3 a lady gives you a quest called "The Wasteland Survival Guide" and is one of the larger side quests at the start of the game. The slow motion during the gun fight is actually a gameplay mechanic called "Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System" or V.A.T.S. It slows down time and allows you target a specific part of the body then the camera follows the projectile. The Ghoul was making all critical hits lol When Lucy is looking around at the various weapons those are all available in the games. The Junk Jet at the top is actually the weapon used to kill a guy with a baby foot in the previous episode. There are even crazier weapons in the games including a Mini Nuke Launcher!
