Home Alone (1991) - Patreon Version

I loved this reaction. Just like I knew I would. Jordan probably knows this, but there is a sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. I highly recommend. It's as good as the first. The third and fourth films are terrible, so give them a pass. There is an excellent docu-series on Netflix called The Movies That Made Us. One of the episodes covers this film and gives most of the fun facts I could tell you, so you should check it out. But here's a few extras that I don't think are in the documentary: There was a real and a fake tarantula on set. Daniel Stern (the burglar, Marv) is afraid of spiders IRL. When they put the spider on his face, it's a real...and so are Daniel's screams. So you know that the moment when Kevin puts the aftershave on his face and screams is one of the most iconic moments of the film. But neither Mackaulay nor the director knew it would sting that much. Which means, when he put it on his face, his scream is real. The second time he did it, it was a recreation of the first, and the bottle is filled with water. In several scenes, Joe Peschi (Harry, the other burglar) can be heard "swearing" up a storm, but most of what he says is gibberish. Peschi wanted to create an authentic feeling of real frustration, but he knew he couldn't start cursing in a family friendly Christmas film, so he came up with the idea to spit out lines of nonsensical sounds instead. Short list of recommended Christmas films, in addition to Home Alone 2: -The Santa Clause (Tim Allen, and the second one is also great. And yes, it's supposed to have an e on the end of Claus) -Elf (Will Farrell, comedy, super funny) -Santa Claus: The Movie (80's, John Lithgow and Dudley Moore) -National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (80's classic, Chevy Chase. There are other movies centered around the same family, but the others aren't as good IMO, and only this one is Christmas-themed) Fantastic job, as always.
