There are two giant problems with Hanlon's Razor though. One, the median human is quite clever and basically amoral, meaning malice is nearly always the more likely cause of anything bad, with stupidity a distant second. And two, even if you disagree with the first point, given sufficient time you will eventually encounter malice, so following Hanlon's Razor leaves you unprepared for inevitable harms. It really could be rephrased to "better sorry than safe."
