What I'm Watching - September 2017

I haven't had a lot of time lately to watch many shows or movies, but here's what I've had a chance to absorb this month:

THE DEUCE - Caught the first two eps this new HBO series from THE WIRE's David Simon and I gotta say, I absolutely love it.  I'm not a huge fan of James Franco usually, but he absolutely kills it here as does Maggie Gyllenhaal.  Definitely into it for the long haul.

RICK AND MORTY Season 3 - Because duh.

BABY DRIVER - Finally got a chance to see this and as promised, Edgar Wright delivers a really fun ride.  Also, chuffed to see one of their warehouse locations was the same place I shot a music video back in 2013.

PHILIP K. DICK'S ELECTRIC DREAMS - I caught first episode and...I dunno yet.  Perfectly dreary in its visuals, but nothing really stuck with me.  Seemed to be the less impressive cousin of BLACK MIRROR.  Will give it a few more eps to decide.

THE VOID - Re-watched this Lovecraftian horror indie again while prepping for my own film.  Definitely enjoyed it more the second time around, esp the ending.

THE BAD BATCH - I want to like this, I really do.  So far, though, I've had to turn it off twice and just can't seem to finish it.

68 KILL - Turned this off part way through.  May try to finish it at some point.

IT - I dug it, but it wasn't nearly creepy enough.  Jump scares are lazy.  That said, the casting was perfect and the non-horror scenes were wonderfully done.

Still to watch:

THE ORVILLE - Seth MacFarlane's Star Trek spoof. The reviews haven't been kind, but I wanted to give it a shot.

THE DARK TOWER - another critical disaster but I want to see it regardless.

PREACHER Season 2 - For some reason I just can't bring myself to watch the final 3 eps. As much as I loved the first season, this second season has been underwhelming.

LET ME MAKE YOU A MARTYR - Checking this one out because Manson's in it, but haven't found time to watch it yet.

What's everyone else watching this month?

Comments

I'm very much into Gotham at the moment 3rd season. Season 2 didn't wow me but I loved the first season so much. 3rd isn't the greatest but I am addicted now. Don't get chance to watch much more at home these days. I've got in to Continuum at work and Dresden after reading some of the Dresden Files. I fancy the Dark Tower too for Edris and might get me into the books as I never finished the first.
