As most of you know, California's been in a severe drought the past few years, which means we've had very little rain to play in.
Last winter, a brief storm made its way through Southern California and I had the bright idea to shoot some semi-nudes out in the storm. I put out a model call on Facebook and Dorian Dane answered. We agreed to meet the next day to shoot.
Only it didn't rain the next day.
Sure, it was overcast, but there was very little in the way of actual rain to use in the shots. Thankfully Dorian brought her boyfriend, EDM-artist Aaron "Darksiderz" Wallace along with her. I handed Aaron my garden hose and told him to "make it rain".
Aaron was delighted to soak his girl with freezing water from the hose, Dorian much less so. But she was a total trooper and we were able to get a bunch of great shots where it actually looks like it was raining.
See folks, photography is all smoke and mirrors. Never believe what you see.
Thanks to meeting Dorian and Aaron that day, I would later go on to direct a music video for Aaron's side project Fake Friends with Combichrist's Joe Letz. (Which nearly a year later, still hasn't been released. Argh.)
Technical Details: Shot with a Canon 7D and daylight.
