In 2011, producer David Bond approached me to do a one sheet for his upcoming horror anthology film, The Profane Exhibit.
"You can do whatever you, I just want something that's dark and fucked up and the best thing you've ever created", he would tell me.
I immediately thought of a human-sized display box showcasing some sort of "profane" image. Some that would blend the horror with a twisted sensuality.
I enlisted the aid of production designer friend Geoff Flint to help me with creating the box. Geoff is an incredible art guy with some really amazing resources. He was able to locate a friend who, surprise, was getting rid of a display case large enough to fit a person inside. We purchased the case at a ridiculously low price and Geoff set about building a base for it.
In the meantime, I began designing the creature. I came up with the idea of a nude, bald "demon" of some sort. The collar was a re-painted piece leftover from a music video shoot and the plastic was left over art expendables from a previous shoot.
I brought FX artist Jenn Rose in to handle turning model Precious Little into our disturbing creature and booked a shooting space at a recently opened dungeon space run by Lexi Sindel in downtown Los Angeles.
We knocked out the poster image (seen above) pretty quickly then spent the rest of the afternoon just playing with different ideas, each getting progressively dirtier with the blood and black soot. The resulting images became a series I would later call "Carrion".
4 years later, I'm still really enjoying these strange images and thrilled to finally share them with you guys here on Patreon.
Although the movie still has yet to be released (for reasons unknown to me), the poster was a huge success with the horror community.
Technical Details: Shot with a Canon 7D with a 24-70mm L series lens. Lit with a Paul C. Buff Einstein head above the model with 3 ft Octa Softbox (key) and two JTL heads on the sides (background).
