I suspect "Adam Sandler wouldn't show up for a quick paycheck" is all I really need to know. I mean, yeah, the guy has done some good work, but he's become kind of infamous for "Take my friends some place they all want to go on vacation, squeeze as many paid endorsements into a lame script as we can, call it a day" movies. If HT4 is beneath him, it's probably beneath most of us, too.

I, too, had been curious as to what Sony was trying to do with Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, as it was advertised to come out last October, and then it didn't. Then it got the worst outcome possible: being unceremoniously released during the infamous dump month of January. As we all know, a release in January is pretty much a death sentence for a movie and a sign that it is not so great (remember how Strange Magic failed miserably upon its release in January 2015?). One wonders if even Sony itself felt that the movie was not up to snuff and just decided to give it the January death slot and be done with it? One thing is for sure: based on this Quick Vid and the critical reception in general, it's a good thing that the Hotel Transylvania franchise is bidding us all farewell, because it clearly has run out of gas.
Hearing that HT4 is a rehash of the first movie, seeing how the idea of transforming humans into monsters and vice versa was not utilized as well as it could have, knowing that Genndy Tartakovsky is much better off working on Primal and the upcoming Unicorn: Warriors Eternal...it just makes me feel that a fourth HT movie was not needed. This is especially the case given that Sony Pictures Animation has improved greatly since Into the Spider Verse...I do wonder if they simply opted to treat HT4 as an afterthought, dump it onto Amazon Prime during the month of January, and give all the loving to Across the Spider Verse Part One. At any rate, I'm glad that Sony opted to pull the plug on HT before it could overstay its welcome even more than it already has...which is more than can be said for another animated franchise that's about to have its sixth movie be unleashed upon us all *cough*IceAgeAdventuresofBuckWild*cough* Sony clearly wants to make more higher-quality movies, and I hope that their future is a bright one now that Hotel Transylvania is in the rear view mirror.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on HT4 with us, Saber...I look forward to see what you plan on giving the good old fashioned Quick Vid treatment next! =)
