February Report

Hello hello, it has been a while since our last development post here at Kinky Fridays so I need to apologize for that. In case you were wondering why I had a baby! My time has been quite limited the past few months but things are getting back into order now so we can start being more transparent with our development diaries and such again.

Elewder
We are still plugging away at Elewder every month like normal, the focus has entirely been on adding new content and theming the areas of the dungeon. So far we have completed the Fire area now known as the Foundry, along with the Earth area now with an Egyptian theme. Both areas also have unique music tracks for combat and exploration along with the boss theme as well. The next areas are the Water area now known as the Bathhouse, and following that we will have the Menagerie which replaces the Air arena, and finally the Succubus final area.

As for content, each region has 5 unique enemies and we will also be building out finisher animations, game over animations, and loot items. We additionally have 3 more unlockable characters to build but we first want to add in the game's narrative elements and a few other odds and ends.

Date Night
We have come a long way since we started working on this project. Basically, Date Night is our first real “free” release which was entirely designed to help build new tech, specifically procedural facial animations (head sway, eye jitter, blinks, eyebrow movement, lip-sync) and to build the “hugging” layered animation system. We have a script, we have a model, we have some basic animations in place. The Face Animations called VLife is all but done (just optimizations left) and then we will finish the hugging system called Doll after that.

Tower Girls
This one is a brand new game that was born from experimentations and a game jam we are participating in. We have been refining a locomotion and shooting system in preparation for a massive project coming in the near future during that process we developed some really simple zombie systems that we needed for testing shooting mechanics. The experiments were really fun and as a result, we decided to spend the month doing a game jam to build a new product.

So here is Tower Girls, a tower-defense horde mode gatcha game. The idea is you would gather currency by killing zombies, you use that currency to play a slot machine that will reward the player with placable Waifus who will use their Waifu skills to fight off zombie waves. We also are toying around with a barricade system using something similar to Katamari Damacy, slapping props together.

Should be a neat little game.

Under Contract
We have been working super duper hard on this game, and I know none of you have seen the game in action yet, let alone know the story. There is a good reason for that. For the time being, we are considering running a Kickstarter campaign for the game in a few months, along with releasing a free demo for everyone to play! However, before we move on that we need to refine as much of the game as we can. The game is A LOT of fun right now, but presentation-wise we need to spruce things up. So we are changing the game from a 2D product into a 3D game!

It means two major things, the first is that the presentation of the game can now be far more polished, so making additional poses that are narratively related like clutching your heart for one line of dialogue is possible. It also means the speed of development will not be clogged from an art perspective, as up until now art production has been lagging behind game production for sure. The second thing is that our “hugging” scenes just got a massive quality improvement, with fully animated scenes it makes things a lot easier to build.

Project Future
Say hello to the biggest game Kinky Fridays has on the schedule at the moment, not much has been talked about right now for this game, but the focus is on building systems. Locomotion, gunplay, spawning systems, enemy AI, roguelike elements, etc has spawned other games in our library. The full development of this will start in a couple of months, but it was worth talking about since this is a big step for the company.

Wet Nightmares
With the last release being delayed due to issues with creating platform builds (Android, Linux, Mac) we decided to over to a more reliable engine. So the last couple of months have been focused on porting from VNMaker to Renpy, the next build will likely just be the new engine version of the game along with corrected Android, Mac, Linux builds. Also, there is going to be a little lag time due to the developer having to learn a new system. We hope it makes Wet Nightmares way more stable, and far more enjoyable to all who play.

Sapphire Safari
Development of this title is on hold at the moment, we are currently revising our internal systems for content before we build too deeply into Sapphire Systems. The tech being made for Date Night is what will be brought into the game very soon. We simply need a bit more time to make sure it all works correctly before that can happen. One step at a time.

March we will be focused mainly on Tower Girls and Under Contract since those two are our next possible releases for the company. I hope you all enjoyed this little post, I aim to make them far more frequently now that time is flowing back to me.
