PINAPL: DRY RUN #1

YO REYYYTRONS!

Apologies for slacking on this Patreon. Been figuring out LIFE, you know? Your support is always appreciated and super vital.

Hey we have COMICS today. A kinda BIG DEAL COMICS, to me, anyway, today.

This here is PINAPL: DRY RUN! Instead of endlessly doing character designs, maps, taking notes & developing the world, I figured out that making sketch comics that display the vibe, feel & tone of the actual comic would serve me, and you, and everyone, so much better.

To be clear: I am developing the heck out of this comic. There are a lot of moving parts. It starts to become insurmountable. To circumvent that, you just gotta kinda turn your mind off and start MAKING. That's what I did with this DRY RUN.

So here is a look at PINAPL: DRY RUN

+ + + + +

There you have it!

This DRY RUN does multiple things for me:

- Instead of speculating about "tone" and how this comic will feel, now I have physical (digital lol, is there a difference anymore?) depiction of it for real. It is there and I can see how it feels and it feels good

- Developing a shorthand for the characters, especially VOLCANO VAL (the main character). I spent a lot of time on "Character Sheets" for Val, and all the other characters-- but little of that really matters [for me] when I go in to draw the actual comic. My comics aren't like animation-- I don't conform to a character guide-- depending on the angle, situation, the characters proportions can and will change to suit what I think looks coolest! Of course, none of these drawings are final depictions of how it would like in the final, but the "FEEL" is all there and again, feels good lol

- Val's WEAPON. This whole thing came out of the idea that Val will have a makeshift weapon with him that changes into other weapons, that he can't really control. Given to him by a pal earlier in the story. Val has a sword at the start of the story, but it breaks! So he gets this weapon and goes on his merry way. This is me trying to throw monkey wrenches at Val, make him a character that has to deal with shitty situations. Maybe eventually his multi-tool weapon WILL turn into a monkey wrench lol

- LAYOUT. This is me also testing how I want the comic to be laid out. Do I wanna go FULL BLEED like i've done with virtually all my comics in the past? I'm leaning toward no. Also COLORING-- what's an efficient and good looking way for me to color this? I have made headway on all those fronts with this DRY RUN.

So yeah, it may look like a sloppy lil comic, but this is actually a huge breakthru for me.

I will probably do a lot more of these as I develop the final PINAPL comic. I want it to be..... PRETTY FUCKING AWESOME.... so taking DRY RUNS like this before I dive full deep into it, is a really good idea, I think.

tbh I am feeling this messy style, too. I'm leaning more and more ever towards STRAIGHT UP MESSY for my comics. I think it adds a lot of much needed humor, too.

Hope you enjoy-- More COMIC UPDATES coming real soon

You're an inspiration man! I've been in a similar situation lately. Endless world building is a bitch and I got sick of not making comics so I ended up switching to a quick simple comic for a break. Very much inspired by what you do. I like the "straight up messy" style here it has an amazing energy to it! Keep up the good work man!!
